I love this game!
I believe I played through the first four stages last night, before I had to go to bed at a decent enought hour to be rested for work today. But man, I had dreams about rolling shit up. Even here, at my work desk, I find myself looking around the room, sizing up objects, trying to figure out how big my ball will need to be to roll them up, too.
We were talking about what objects were the most fun to roll up... well, maybe I'm sick, but for me it is the "enemy" animals that can attack you when you are smaller. It is a really satisfying when you've successfully rolled yourself big enough to turn the tables and scoop them up as indescriminately as you would an eraser or a flower pot.

I am purchasing this game tomorrow. Any advice for a humble Damacy noob?

When watching the opening movie keep telling yourself that you are not on drugs and that this is actually happening.
You know I was watching CN's newest show Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and I thought to myself, "That animation style used on this show would be perfect for a 30 second commercial for a Katamari Damacy sequel".
Anyway Katamari Damacy wins an award for design. Huzzah!

There's one curious problem it seems I keep having and I was wondering if it happens to anyone else: the game occasionally won't load my save. It reads the data, but when it asks me if I want to load it and I select yes, it just brings me right back to the data select. I usually have to reset or load another save then reset or do whatever weird shit I can think of before the data successfully loads. What's up with that?

Yeah, I'm running on a virgin imported PS2, so it's not your mod. Curious indeed. Maybe it's the memory cards? I'm using a US memory card, and they're supposedly 100% compatible, but maybe there's some slight difference that affects only certain games?
Are any of you guys playing the US version having this problem?

I had the same exact thought. The way I see it, Katamari Damacy is Billy Hatcher done right. No jumping sections, no pit deaths, no dying. Just pure, lovely rolling. Its like my fingers are having sex with the controller and they just won't stop. I love this game.Scary thought:
Billy Hatcher came very close to being Katamari Dynasty. I mean, think about it - they both generally have the same basic concept (rolling crap around over other crap and making the ball grow larger) . . .

I haven't, but I've only had the game since Friday, so it might just not have come up yet.Green Gibbon! wrote:Yeah, I'm running on a virgin imported PS2, so it's not your mod. Curious indeed. I've been playing the game like nuts since Wednesday now, and I haven't encountered the problem. I'm playing the US version on a US Playstation. No one seems to be bitching it on any of the other boards I frequent, but they'll all be playing the US version too...
So, here's a question. How BIG can you actually get the ball? What is the maximum size?
(Stop reading here if you haven't played the final level yet.)
I played The World on eternal mode and rolled up absolutely everything until there was absolutely nothing left but an empty ocean, and that got me a ball that was about 820 metres wide. But can you make it bigger depending on what order you roll junk up in? It seems to me like that shouldn't make a difference, considering it always "zooms out" your perspective at the same benchmark widths... but what do I know?

I heard some people managed to get 840M on Eternal mode 3.
Bah, I only manage to unlock the first Eternal mode and I swear it gets to be a pain to unlock the other two modes when the camera zooms out a bit too far on the last minute on the levels.
Right now, I'm trying to collect the cousins and the smallest items I've missed for my collection album. I'm missing a Shogi piece which I don't exactly know the name of it is.

To unlock the third Eternal mode, I believe you need to break 800 m in "Make the Moon." Considering there is only 820 to 840 m total that is even POSSIBLE to pick up, I suppose that's pretty hard!
I have no idea why I could do it. I really struggled (and still struggle) with a lot of the earlier levels. But I got 801 m on Make the Moon on my second try. So, I've got Eternal 3 unlocked, but not the first two.
I don't think I'm hardcore enough to try to pick up every single object in the game, but I have to admit... with a catalog that is organized by both size and location, they have at least made it a task that one could concievably finish.
I notice one of the islands you pick up in Make the Moon is "Pigeon Town". So, I'm curious to know if you can grow big enough in Pigeon Town to get OUT of the town and into the World map. That would be sweet!
Also, something else that I thought was kind of cute. Inside the mountain on the island you start on in the World map is "Demo Island." I think it is the area where the programmers tested the ball physics, but you can't really check it out since you can't get up there until your ball is bigger than the actual island.

So how about this one: the first time I played make the moon, I grabbed the present from the flying superhero. But then I failed the stage, and consequently was not allowed to keep the present. I've since played it and have cleared it many times, but the present has never reappeared. Have I missed it for good?
