Yoshi has personality beyond being dual-gendered and groaning constantly?
Also is there even a character called Yoshi or is it just a type of dinosaur?

Re: Super Ultra Mario Party Land World Bros. Sunshine Galaxy II
If you'll recall, in Super Mario World, he was intelligent enough to write a letter and leave it at his house.I'm really excited that Yoshi is back in the new Mario games, but somehow since it's been so long since anyone who wasn't an infant rode on him, and he's been imbued with so much more personality since Mario World, it just seems weird to see Mario riding him. I mean, now Yoshi can drive a car, play a mean game of tennis, or fight hand-to-hand! Is it right to use him like a lowly beast of burden? To be cast off down a hole whenever Mario misses a jump? It's weird!
Happy go-lucky loyal magical dinosaur who is obsessed with fruit?Yoshi has personality beyond being dual-gendered and groaning constantly?
He's a male. Yoshi excrete waste in the form of non-fertile eggs. Eggs that don't hatch are Yoshi poop.
The green Yoshi is a specific character called Yoshi, but it's also the name of a type of dinosaur. And all Yoshis are called Yoshi. But the green one is the main one. Also is there even a character called Yoshi or is it just a type of dinosaur?

I think it's the design that makes this more of an issue. Originally he was more horse-like with the little saddle, long body and useless little dinosaur arms. As he became a playable character in his own right his features were more humanised, he started standing upright, he got proper hands and arms and so on. Seeing an adult ride that version of the character is weird.G.Silver wrote:I'm really excited that Yoshi is back in the new Mario games, but somehow since it's been so long since anyone who wasn't an infant rode on him, and he's been imbued with so much more personality since Mario World, it just seems weird to see Mario riding him. This render makes Yoshi appear larger than Mario. The last console generation typically portrayed them as the same size, even in Super Mario Sunshine.
And here I thought I was the only one that subscribed that idea. :DZeta wrote:He's a male. Yoshi excrete waste in the form of non-fertile eggs. Eggs that don't hatch are Yoshi poop.

While it may be true that the green yoshi is called Yoshi, the claim that yoshis of other colours do not possess an own name is incorrect.

As evidence to the contrary, I would like to present this scan of an official Nintendo Yoshi's Island guide from 1995:

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8506/yoshinames.jpg
According to this, the purple Yoshi's name is Marci, the blue one goes by the name of Tommy, the Yoshi of red colour was christened Netty, the orange one is Eddi, the sky blue Yoshi is called Jonny, the pink one is named Claudi and lastly Sunny is the name of the yellow dinosaur. Thereby the aforementioned claim is proven false.

I demand the defence to retract their statement immediately or to provide solid proof for their position.

Since did Germany have any authority of the Mario franchise?

Since when did Germany start whoring out Reiji Mitsurugi to back up their claims?

NoE tends to fill in holes where NoA and NCL forget. They were the ones who stated Waluigi is in fact Wario's brother and the reason that the Kremlings stole DK's bananas was so they could mint them into gold via the Kremcroc factory.

And rock stars come from Germany too! I subscribe to the theory that the Ace Attorney version of history had the Germans winning WWII. Or at least surviving a lot longer so they could become an epicenter of pop culture and (rather brutal) criminal law.

Actually, it was America. In the English versions, all the locations were changed around for mysterious reasons.Well his surrogate sister studying law there might have something to do with it.

It's true, Reiji's Mitsurigi's sister studied in America, but Miles Edgeworth's sister studied in Germany.

I'm actually pretty sure they're not meant to be two different characters.

Re: Super Ultra Mario Party Land World Bros. Sunshine Galaxy II
Probably not intended to be, but due to the localization process, they kind of are anyway. Intentional changes in script during localization already change some background information and perhaps even personality should the localizer wish so, and there's no denying that the localization exists, so you have two games, Ace Attorney and Gyakuten Saiban. One seems to take place in the US and one takes place in Japan. Does Mayoi like burgers? I think it was Maya that liked burgers. I believe Mayoi likes ramen. So yeah, Reiji Mitsurugi's sister studying in Germany is a bit of a fallacy Yes I know I'm being an uber-geek. I can't keep track of every nuanced change in every game ever, so I think people should call them by the names of the version that they played and are familiar with. I know it's a rather stupid feeling, but I get irked when people say something like "Yakuza 3 has been announced!" when Yakuza 3 clearly does not exist.

Also, I'm sure the Sonic in the cartoons and the Sonic in the games weren't meant to be two different characters either. But, well, they are anyway. It's a whole other interpretation and continuity.

Apparently Japan's localization of the Donkey Kong games interpret K. Rool's disguises as entirely different characters! That or the Smash Bros. Brawl profile writers are just idiots.

I'm also pretty sure that nothing was changed in the localization process for "artistic" purposes, and if they were, the changes weren't nearly broad enough to qualify it as a separate game, or (ulp) "universe". It's just plain patronizing.

I don't know about the word "universe" (blegh, that word makes me think of things like parallel universes), but I do consider them having different "continuities".

It was sarcasm. The difference between "universe" and "continuity" is a point too fine for my feeble mind to grasp.

Re: Super Ultra Mario Party Land World Bros. Sunshine Galaxy II
In my humble opinion I would define "continuity" as the sole existence within a franchise excluding any parallel lines and declaring itself the absolute and only truth whereas "universe" would rather imply that there might be parallel or alternate universes within the combined existence in a game and are merely one possibility of an outcome.
If that made sense somehow.
