If the point you were trying to prove was that I like Halo 2 and thus enjoy coverage about it, then I guess you did a fantastic job. Good work.
Of course if you were trying to prove that there was some problem in the gaming industry that is related to Halo 2 then you failed miserably because all you basically said was: 1) If it's a game I don't like and it's popular that's a problem with the industry. And: 2) If it's a game I don't like and there is an expansion for it, then there is a problem with the industry. Finally: 3) If it's a game I don't like and it's covered by media then that is a problem with the industry.
It's also interesting to note that your impression of Halo 2 has changed over the past two days from "decent" to "dick." You seem to be quite fickle about this game. It's also noteworthy, I think, that while you think Halo 2 is "dick" and that the media coverage about it is a "problem with the industry," but you evidently don't miss an episode of Red vs. Blue. Wait I'll bet you watched it under duress? I'll bet it's a big problem with the industry because RvB is only popular because it uses the Halo/2 engine, and could be made better if it used a better game. Am I right?
I think I'm about finished here. I pretty much made all my points in this "lol debate" at the very beginning and you have yet to denounce any of them, nor have you brought up anything legitimate yourself. If all you are going to do is just make fun of the games you don't like under the veil of "industry problems" then I'm not really interested in discussing this further. If you have legitmate complaints about the game or industry, I'll be here, otherwise: I'm out.

Whatever man, you still haven't articulated a "problem" in the industry. This excercise in asininity is exhausting and a waste.
Edit: I bet your cooking sucks Omni.

Playing the Devil's Advocate, hasn't the industry always been like this? I mean in the 8-bit and 16-bit era most gaming magazines always hyped up the latest Mario, Sonic, or Zelda with several pages of new and exclusive info every other month or occasionally some cable news outlet would cover it because they were the 'in' thing. Meanwhile, games such as E.V.O., Pocky & Rocky, or even Dynamite Headdy usually get a sidebar(or one page-if they are lucky) preview in one month and in the next month the review and that was that(sans the obligatory Game Shark codes in the following issue).Double-S- wrote:My point was that stupid gamers only want to know about what they know about, which is what is popular, because it's all that the media covers, which they do because people want to know only about it, perpetuating an infinite circle of ignorance.

I think the only thing that is over-hyped about Halo 2 is its innovation. (And perhaps its one player mode.) At this point in my life, I can only get so excited about yet another multiplayer online FPS unless it is doing something really different and out there, which of course Halo does not. But it's a solid, fun, polished game in most respects -- particularly in comparisson to other console FPS games -- and deserves to be successful.
I don't lose a lot of sleep knowing that Halo 2 is outselling, say, Rez. No, it's knowing that honest-to-god awful games like True Crime or the Cat in the Hat are outselling Rez that keeps me up at night.

Halo, or Halo 2, or the Halo 2 updates, or the heavy amount of news coverage Halo gets doesn't bother me. It's that I can't escape it. Like half my friends don't talk about anything other than Halo. It's something like:
"Hey, what's up?"
"Last night I was playing Halo 2 with these French guys and they were trying to arm our base, but then I was like, NO YOU DIDN'T! and I ran in there with sticky granades, but then he was going to still make it and I had to PWN him across the face with the Brute Shot and I was like 'THAT'S WHAT YOU GET BOY!" and I found out he was like a fifth grader and I felt bad for him untill I destroyed his team with the sniper rifle from the ontop of the building in Beaver Creak and he was like 'I want my mommy,' and stuff. So how bout you?"
"I'm... I'm good. I'll see ya later."

I just got finished with some custom games and I have to totally disagree with you. Turf is quite possibly the best map in the game for anything. There are so many great paths and hiding spots throughout the level. It's perfect for setting up ambushes and such. We played some territories, slayer and CTF and all three matches played great.
Warlock I wasn't that impressed with, had a comical game of three-way CTF but with one guy on each team it wasn't that great. More people might make it better, but whatever. Didn't really get much into Containment, but had a really good CTF match in Sanctuary.

You're probably right, I just wasn't blown away initially with the maps and still haven't gotten to play in any decent games yet. The only one that I don't think my mind could be changed about is Sanctuary or whatever. It just looks and feels so bland and cobbled together, but maybe there are a few interesting spots that will make it golden.
But I hate everything, it's just what I do.
