Actually, I would label Sonic has having the Japanese logic if I had to assign such a thing to him:

Sonic has no continuity, it never has and never will. It was made up with just a very basic story "Hero saves forest animals from evil Doctor" to be popular.

Think of it as a popular myth, meaning there are many versions of the same story, and diferent sidestories that may or not be taken in acount.

Sonic 3's story is a continuation of Sonic 2's.

Not to mention the yellow emerald carried over from SA1 to SA2, Shadow's entire existence from SA2 to Heroes, investigating why the hell Shadow's still around from Heroes to Shadow, and Shadow's personality change (from "baaaaawww Maria" to "forget Maria, let's blow crap up") from Shadow to 2K6.

...so I guess that really means Shadow's the only one with any major continuity going on here, for better or worse.

But like I said, those games often pick and choose what to include from previous games. Why did Tails get :EY: for saving Station Square, if he had to be awarded it after Perfect Chaos attacked? SA2 ignores this, probably for the better.

That's still continuity. Selective continuity, but continuity none the less. Each game presents its own stand-alone story but there are enough references to the events of previous games to understand that they don't exist in a vacuum.

Sonic did indeed have a continuity and a set or rules and laws which America and UK have always wanted to twist and bend by making their own crap just like Dragonball Evolution did to Dragonball the Manga.

If you have noticed I have lost interest In Sonic forever, I mean current games are way too much BS for me to handle now, Sonic is not the same, the Sonic i knew is dead, I tried to deny before but hes dead.

If you think about it it all ended after Sept, 11, 2001 and it seems like if it had killed SEGA and Sonic somehow, all we are seeing now are the severed limbs on the floor, pieces and shadows of what used to be but does not compare.

Sorry for my pessimism but I have broken out of the Sonic Cycle, and it feels good because I wont get lured by their False Hope like Obama (which I didn't vote, not for him not for anyone for anyone, the government is a lie just like SonicTeam is atm). Having hope For Sonic now is like expecting George Lucas to create something like Star Wars 4,5 and 6 again, its not gonna happen...Only a Miracle Will save Sonic now.

Unlike you guys, I wont continue to talk about and beat on this dead horse just for fun (new Sonic Games) any longer as it is not my style. I'll just see the news from time to time like you see a tombstone of a love one from time to time (it says R.I.P Sonic the Hedgehog my favorite character of all time who died and it is now a Zombie roaming around).

I really don't share your pessimism. Sure, the series hit a large snag which started around SA2 / Heroes, and climaxed in Sonic '06, but everything (especially the fun-factor and craftsmanship) seems to have really improved with Unleashed and the Rush titles, so I think we've passed the worst part of the storm. I think SEGA's biggest priority now is to ensure that they steadily increase the quality of their future flagship Sonic titles to build a better reputation for the series. If this means giving games more development time than two years, then by all means they ought to do that.

Dasher, did you make that Sonic Cycle thing? It's surprisingly insightful, at least as far as Sonic goes. And you're still gonna enjoy the old games, right? I mean, that's pretty much what everyone does around here anymore.

All Sonic's friends and new friends ruined Unleashed. That cycle is so right.

Like was anyone else pissed off when you had to carry Vector to the top of the clock tower with Ray while Witch Kart was throwing Flickies at you?

Yeah I apologize, who am I to stop your "sonic" research? I no longer enjoy looking at recent games but I shouldn't stop you guys from adding information to this site.

Carry on.

See, I'm a hot nerd. It's a rather fascinating dichotomy. I think they did an article about it in NewScientist.

You know what else is nauseating? Using 9/11 as an allegory in your bizarre, inexhaustive rants against the direction of a game franchise, you fucking reprobate.

Nah, someday he'll grow old and then he won't be hot anymore. Unless he matures into silver fox territory.

I felt too stupid to post this after my little sonic bible post, but concerning Sonic's ability to use the fake yellow emerald for chaos control: Tails states that the yellow fake has the same wavelength and properties as the real emeralds, just with less power. This suggests the fake could be used to preform chaos related abilities, though it would require more strength than if using a real emerald. The question of how Sonic knew how to use chaos control might be easily answered by the fact that he was imprisoned in Gerald's cell, which was covered in calculations, and i believe it is safe to say that some of them had to do with chaos control.
