Just saw it again. The Joker-talking-upside-down scene is the best thing I've seen in years in the movies.

Re: That Black Flying Rodent (AKA Batman 2)
I just saw it! :D
So I have to respond to "what is the theme of this movie" with my basic opinion of what makes a good super hero movie, and that it is a movie about "what happens when there are super heroes." It does not matter who the villain is or even who the hero himself is, but that's the core theme in any of the recent-and-good super hero movies, and often it's the core theme of the original story (though this is usually lost in a sea of super villains before long, Spiderman is a perfect example). The Spiderman movies, Superman Returns, even The Incredibles--maybe "Consequences of Super Heroes" is the unifying theme. This isn't the case with earlier movies, like the old Batmans and Supermans (to the best of my recollection anyway)--those are about guys in spandex punching people, there are no consequences.
My guess for the third movie is a heavily-modified adaptation of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns. Name aside, the end of Dark Knight is a perfect setup, with Batman essentially needing to disappear from public view, long enough for people to forget, or even think of him as a myth. They don't necessarily need a another villain, they just need another consequence of super heroes, and "Batman gets old and is sick of the Joker's shit" is one that hasn't been done yet.

Re: That Black Flying Rodent (AKA Batman 2)
To be fair, the older movies did have a resolution, and that was "guy in the costume saves the day". These days pretty much every superhero movie is about some sort of grounded-in-realism flaw or problem that arises when said guy decides to put the costume on. Call it a trend, but I'm waiting for the next big theme to arise. So far The Dark Knight did it better than any other (according to a great many people, myself included).
The only thing we have left to wait for is the Watchmen movie...

Damn you, here I was thinking about the real Batman 2, the only Batman movie where having two villains worked. And the only movie with a Decent catwoman... all went downhill after that movie-_-
