Comedy Central is basic cable.Senbei wrote:I just started watching South Park, now that it's on basic cable and not Comedy Central
Numerous cuts are applied to the syndicated version of the show, so I wouldn't make any judgments based on that.and can honestly say that it has utterly failed to capture my attention. I don't think I've ever laughed more than once during an episode, or been moved by any social, political, or any other kind of commentary. In truth, I've only seen a handful of episodes, but have no desire to give the show another chance to impress me.

I'd love to add something to the conversation here, but due to my lack of any kind of television over the past 8 years, I don't really have any experience in exactly how bad the Simpsons got. Last I remembered, they sucked. If they've gone downhill from there, I can't imagine a movie about them being very funny.

as far as cartoons go, southpark I think is the best. it's still funny as hell and they still have some sort of moral at the end of the episode.
Also anyone watch home movies? that show I thought was pretty funny. It was kind of inconsistent in blancing out the jokes though. but still it's pretty good.

South park used to be awesome, but the whole “We are going to keep kenny dead for more than one episodeâ€￾ ruined it.
And the Simpsons used to be good but they have touched almost every topic, so what the hell could be the movie about?.
Homer Simpson having bad luck for a hour and a half, people aren’t going to notice its just parts of old episodes glued together.
Many movie parodies glued together, hey it worked for the first “Scary movieâ€￾!.

The problem with South Park is that it already showed most, if not all, of it's potential. Right now, just like Crazy Pinguin said, the show "spents preaching some half-assed opinion on a topic that's usually been beaten to death elsewhere in the media". I don't remeber crealy, but I'm sure several early South Park episodes weren't like that.
Simpsons... well, you've said so yourselfs "First it was "weird", then it was funny, then was VERY FUNNY (peak), then was crap"... over here (Mesico), the show was a success thanks to the dubbing, as some lines had to be improvised (jokes about Gore or Bush aren't funny over here), and the voices actually WERE funny... unfortunantly, 3 seasons ago, all of the original actors went to syndicalization and, thanks to that, they fired ALL of them (made a really big fuzz over here) and hired new ones. It's fame declined after that.
Simpsons movie... hope it doesn't sucks all that much. That's all I can say (the spanish dubb is going to suck SO MUCH)

God Bless the little perv. I've been wishing since, like, 1993 that they would release Crayon Shin-Chan in English, but there's always that nagging thought in the back of my head, "you know how badly that could be fucked up." Too bad.
Where can I get my hands on the movies? And are translations of the manga available yet?

Apparently Crayon Shin-chan has been picked up for English release by some company, according to this site;

The anime itself hasn't been shown in North America outside of Hawaii as far as I know, but I do know that the manga came over to the U.S.;

The show did come to America i believe, in a highly molested form, but still a bit more racey than most other shows. It eventually got pulled because it wasn't funny in the right ways. The Spanish version was damn good, as most spanish dubs tend to be.
As for the movies, animesuki has one (which is very good with a fantastic villian motivation), but i have yet to track down any others.

He's correct, though. Not for that particular reason, however. It was at that exact moment that the tone of the show changed from madcap comedy to "let's make every episode about how we feel about whatever happened in politics in the last month". It's become a less funnier, animated version of the Daily Show.

South Park included social/political commentary in a good portion of the episodes before "Kenny Dies," which was the second-to-last episode of Season Five. It's been there pretty much since Season Two. Not all of the episodes since then have been commentary either, but I'm guessing you wouldn't know this because you probably don't watch the show.
Also you are wrong in saying that The Daily Show is funnier than anything.
Colbert Report, however, is an excellent programme.

I actually thought the follow up was a lot better than the first half. Asside from the part where they actually parodied Family Guy directly -- which was brilliantly spot on -- the rest of the first episode was kind of laughless. But part two had the Cartman/Kyle battle, the manatees, the anti-American cartoon and that great part about the 1st amendment!
I like South Park OK, but there are some things about it that really irritate me. It especially bugs me when they take digs at celebrities with simplistic, outspoken political views... because I swear, no one has more simplistic, outspoken views that Trey and Matt. It's one of the preachiest shows on TV.

Every show that last to long ends losing bright, it happened to “The smurfsâ€￾, it happened to “Pokemonâ€￾, it happened whith “The simpsonsâ€￾ and is happening whith “Southparkâ€￾.
Why Pokemon, the Simpsons and Southpark is still going? maybe because people got used to see those shows(Or in the case of pokemon, because it decended to the level Barney and teletubies fans like).
