Hey, I liked the game, but I'm fully aware of the fact that it's a crappy game. At the very least it is not "excellent".

I rented Tomba! once, many years ago. I got up to the part where you recieve the pig bag or something like that, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out what to do with it. What's the deal with that thing? Good game, regardless.

I bought Tomba! but I never got past the first boss. The game kicked ass, but you needed to get this effect on you that made you do nothing but laugh to open the door to fight him. Then you needed an item to cure that effect, but you got that item really far away from the boss, so every time the boss beat you, you'd have to run all the way back there and get another item, then run all the way back. I remember it being a pain in the ass, and after getting my ass kicked two or three times by the crazy boss I just said fuck it.

Hey, speaking of games that I know sucked but enjoyed anyway, I actually enjoyed Mega Man X6. But I knew it sucked for a variety of reasons (such as that stupid stupid acid rain, and a heart tank that's nearly impossible to get because there are spikes of death where you have to be accurate to the pixel to overcome).

I think I enjoyed it because I really loathed X5, so I had even lower expectations for X6, even though X6 is probably worse than X5.

I quite enjoyed Legend of Legaia despite the backlash it received. I couldn't stand the sequel after a few days, however.

I really like Legend of Legaia also. Though I'm not sure I would enjoy it now if I played it again today.

There is one particular moment in Legaia where a pink-haired young maiden, raised by wolves and very naive to the functions of proper society, defends her resolve to take a bath with a strange man. The dialogue plays out like this:
Girl: "Why can't I take a bath with this man?"
Hero: "Well, the tub isn't big enough, you see."
Girl: "Oh, that's okay! I have a small butt, so we can both fit!"

Aside from that fleeting moment of dialogue, the game is entirely forgettable.

I'd also like to recomend some games. Plenty have been mentioned before, but just take that as a sign that it's really good.

I'd recomend Alundra (but by no means Alundra II), Front Mission 3 (if you're a diehard strat fan), Jet Moto, Silent Hill, Tenchu 2 (blocky controls, but still fun), Vagrant Story, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Armored Core (but, despite how big a fan I am of this series, I'd highly recomend "trying before buying" ), Grandia, Xenogears, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, Breath of Fire 3, and Tekken III.

I saw what Gibbon wrote about BoF 3 and 4, and I have to agree. 4 is still fun, but 3 is just a much better game on the whole. There's also a good number of niche games that might be fun for kicks, like Omega Boost (over-the-shoulder rail shooter) and Command & Conquer (Red Alert Retaliation is crazy fun IF you have an older system that can still link). Even Battle Tanx: Global Assault can be fun if you have someone to play with (unbelievably crappy single player). And, if you're crazy, Dance Dance Revolution: Konamix is available.

I don't think Bushido Blade is worth playing these days. You can imagine how cool the gimmick of killing every opponent in just one or two hits is without playing the game easily enough. The fighting is not particularly deep, not compared to anything else, and the computer is not especially interesting to fight. Against a human it's good for a few laughs, as you chase eachother around poorly rendered 3D arenas, crippling eachother and then laughing as the poor guy with no legs rolls around on the floor, trying desperately to get a swing in against you, but it passes pretty quick. There's a fun mode where you fight against 100 AI ninjas, one right after another, but if you can believe it, even THAT gets old after a little while!

Bushido Blade 2 looks a little nicer but I think is actually less polished and feels considerably less cool. Especially since they dubbed the English version. Badly.

I liked Bushido Blade (the first one anyway). It was really simplistic and kind of shallow, but thats part of it's charm. Or maybe I say that cause I only paid five dollars for it.

While we're on Square, I'd also recommend Einhander, if you can find it. I'm not sure if I liked it because I was in the middle of my post-FF7 Square obsession or if I was hard up for an old-school shooter, but I enjoyed it alot.

By the way everybody, is Xenogears really as good as the inflated prices would have me believe? I played a demo back in the day, but I can't remember any of the actual gameplay...

That reminds me of that scene on the ship in Tales of Phantasia where Klarth confronts Cless (the hero) as to which girl in their party he prefers. Of course, there are a few translations, but the one in the copy I have on my computer goes something like:

Klarth:Cless, which one are you after?
Cless:Huh? What are you talking about?
Klarth:Mint and Arche.
Klarth:Mint is very calm and serene but...
Klarth:I bet Arche fucks like a tiger.

Of course, the rest of the game wasn't very forgettable either, but that part kind of stood out.

I always thought Musashi was a bit overrated. It's not a bad game, I would give it a shot eventually if you can get it for cheap, but if you want a good action RPG, get Alundra first.

Speaking of Musashi, did anyone happen to play the sequel? How is it? By the artwork alone it strikes me as further evidence of why I need to stop playing games altogether.

GOOD POINTS:
~Pretty impressive graphics. Not Final Fantasygood and it's not the best in terms of cel-shading. Can't match up to either Wind Waker or anything Level 5 made with their RPGs, but it's nothing ugly.
~Decent music.
~Gameplay isn't too generic hack and slash. While you'll be punching the square button a lot, you can learn and absord techniques from enemies, some more useful then others. I have used plenty of them, so it's not all that useless.
~Pretty fun boss battles.

BAD POINTS:
~The voice acting makes 4kids sound good, well, at least Musashi. The rest are tolerable to good (especially Rothschild), and I would have rated it higher if the actors gave more effort. It's Musashi's that'll make you cry.
~Camera isn't so much as bad as it is slow, especially during boss battles when you have to constantly tilt the camera so you can actually see where the hell your enemy is.
~Short game. Finished it in a week's time.
~Crappy save point system. You can only save in Musashi's room, so you'll be going on missions in one go, it can take anywhere from an hour to two. Checkpoints are given, but there's really only like one per level and they don't even give you an option to save. If you wanna save, you have to backtrack which sucks if you're more then halfway through and you run of items to heal you.
~Pretty linear

Basically, it's a decent, but flawed game. I guess a rental is more likely then buying.

G-Darius actually runs in mame. It's a bit slow, but not as bad as some other 3D games.

Aw, thanks for thinking of me. <3

To reiterate several people's suggestions, I also heartily recommend BoFIII, Legend of Legaia (despite what GG! said, the bastid), Grandia, FFVII through IX (give them all a little try if you can, they're all so different you may find out you like VIII more than VII for example, though it isn't likely), and also Spider-Man (short but fun with loads of extras), Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus (fucking brilliant), Dino Crisis 2, Jade Cocoon and, if you can find it, Kurushin.

I dunno, Dino Crisis 2 was alright, but it's kind of a one-shot game. Loses it's appeal after one play-through for me. Still, gotta be better than Dino Crisis 3.
