Well maybe Sega should just start to only license Sonic, let others do the Sonic games, is cheaper , easier and they will get money anyway.Owen Axel wrote:It can't possibly be that hard for Sega to figure out where the problem lies when the only Sonic games that do well are the ones not developed by Sonic Team.

Oh, right, right; it'll sell much better on PS3, especially the way it's flying off the shelves. I suppose you believe the "MS forced Sega to rush it so all the bugs will be fixed on PS3" line too. And even if it's not fixed then, they'll patch it in the future. Right?SegaSonic wrote:dude, 80% of sonic fans now are kids, and kids like Nintendo not XBOX.
and the other half is made of old fans like me, which if youre cool you will oviously get the PS3.
ps. 80% + half = 130%.
I thought I just debunked that notion.Hybrid wrote:To be honest, he's right. Half, if not more, of the Sonic fanbase would be willing to shell out $600 for a console just to play a broken game with Sonic's face on it.

I based the assumption mainly off of what I've seen at places such as GameFAQs (which, despite its flaws, still remains the largest "hub world" for gamers) and other Sonic-based websites who, for the most part, really do like this game enough to buy a PS3 for what they assume will be the "fixed" version.
The fact that the game still bombed may just be an indication that the Sonic fandom has finally begun to dwindle.

The stupidity and greed of gamers is the only thing preventing the PS3 from a much-deserved crash and burn. 800 Kr (a lot) for a new PS3 game compared to 600 for an XBox 360 game and 500 for a PS2 game? Add that to the fact that a PS3 costs more than twice the asking price for a high-end 360, and shoves a Blu-Ray thing that nobody ever really asked for down your throat all the way, and you've got a console that you have to be either fucking loaded with cash or stupid to consider buying.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. If Sony ends up proving me wrong, then...well, I might just cry. Cry like a little girl.

You know most of the kids and their parents in the Sonic internet fanbase can't afford a PS3--at least right now.

QFT. Whether Sonic fans want to buy a PS3 and whether they will buy a PS3 are two critically different questions. And the odds will stack up further against the PS3 for Sonic fans once Secret Rings is out and indubitably gets better buzz than Sonic06.Ngangbius wrote:You know most of the kids and their parents in the Sonic internet fanbase can't afford a PS3--at least right now.
It'd take a really stubbornly demanding kid and a really eager-to-please mom to get a system that costs twice as much for a worse game.

I can say the worst thing about this game is the slide attack, which is quite possibly a suckier version of the somersault attack. Press the action button at any time, and Sonic will half-assedly slowly slide along the ground like he's floating with his leg punched out. Not so bad, but get this - you can't STOP the attack. Not by jumping, not with the control stick, not anything. You're essentially frozen for about 8 seconds until the attack ends and you can actually do something else. It totally fucking sucks, especially since you start out with a moderately useful spin-kick attack that's later "upgraded" into the slide attack.

You keep saying these things and I keep seeing no reason to believe them.Hybrid wrote:You guys do realise that there are plenty of older Sonic fans who actually enjoy the 3D Games, right?
Sonic had the most fans back in the days of the Genesis. Common sense would suggest that they've grown up since then, and not everyone is as cynical as us here at the GHZ.
I suspect that when you say "there are plenty of older sonic fans" you mean "there are plenty of older sonic fans on the internet at sonic fansites". This ultimately does not mean a whole lot. My "common sense suggests" that of all the Genesis Sonic fans who've grown up, hardly any care anymore, and this is borne out by that I know exactly one Sonic fan IRL and tons of Mario fans. There's just no buzz around the franchise anymore.
And then there's the fact that Sonic just isn't selling on 360, which you seem to be conveniently ignoring again. I guess old Genesis fans would only buy Sonic06 on PS3... for some reason.
As for cynicism... who needs cynicism? It's a fact. The games suck. Sonic06 and Shadow both got ~50% on gamerankings, and gamers at large didn't like them either.

I enjoyed both Shadow and Sonic 06, but I wouldn't call either one a quality title. I shouldn't have to compromise quite so much to avoid getting frustrated by the awful controls and unpolished programming.
I challenge anyone to find a single human being who's not played Sonic games before, but can still manage to get through the first level of Sonic the Hedgehog without getting a game over. I'm confident that it can't be done. As a corollary, find an average competent gamer who can NOT manage to beat the first level of, say, Super Mario Sunshine or just about any mascot-type character platformer.
Sure, I can waltz through that first level myself without any trouble now and have plenty of fun doing it, but learning how to get that hedgehog to do what you want is more a case of trial and get killed, than pick it up bit by bit. Granted, the controls wouldn't seem so awful if it wasn't the case that every other pitfall will kill you outright, and EVERY pitfall in the high speed section will kill you, like, outrighter.
It's a poorly made game. And any idiot forced to play through it can spot the errors with such painful ease that there's no forgiving the makers for not putting proper effort towards correcting them. Starting over from scratch with the level design would be good. Also, the controls. Oh, and the camera. The graphics and music are fine, though, I can't see any reason to bitch about that.

In contrast, I know quite a few people who played Sonic as one of their first video games and are still quite interested in the series. Much as my internet-fansite based assumption may not be an accurate representation of everyone in real life, neither is your assumption based on that one guy you know.Rolken wrote: I suspect that when you say "there are plenty of older sonic fans" you mean "there are plenty of older sonic fans on the internet at sonic fansites". Sonic is selling on the 360. Not well, but it is. I don't see why you'd expect it not to sell at all on the PS3. There will always be plenty of spoilt little kids in the world, much as there will always be older gamers who are willing to give "that new Sonic game" a try because they remember Sonic being a decent series back in the day. Mind you, I don't expect it to be much more of a hit on the PS3 than it was on the 360.And then there's the fact that Sonic just isn't selling on 360, which you seem to be conveniently ignoring again. All I know is that I've seen people, primarily on GameFAQs, proclaiming that they're getting a PS3 for the supposed "finished" version of this game, and other people who are getting it for the PS3 even though they don't believe it will be any different. If you've got a bigger sample crowd that you'd like to use to prove the game will bomb even more than on the 360, then I'd like to see it.

Not to mention, we need some ginuea pigs other than the press to tell us if the PS3 version is any better or worse.
Tried pressing X in mid-attack? And I thought you kept the breakdance kick after buying the slide from the shop? Not so bad, but get this - you can't STOP the attack. From what i heard a while back, it's not much better. Just a few more fixed bugs, but the game is still gonna be broken like fuck.FlashTHD wrote:Not to mention, we need some ginuea pigs other than the press to tell us if the PS3 version is any better or worse.
That said, i haven't actually seen it running on PS3, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
