Whoa, I was only implying that GHZ has it's characters. Stardust seemed to get the jist of it. Baba probably has his reasons for being reminded about his dvds.

Actually, my reasoning is long and complicated. He had 1984 in his post, which in turn reminded me of George Orwell, whose book was placed next to the CD. Next to the CD is a massive box of films, including Stanley Kubrick's finest. So, stop worrying and learn to love the bomb.

No. Strangelove, Clockwork, FMJ, 2001, Lolita, The Shining, Spartacus, and... Eyes Wide Shut.

I'm rather ashamed that I've only seen Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove.

I really need to get my shit together.

I take German 1 in school. I accidentally said in front of the class that I was a walking shit-hole while trying to ask to go to the bathroom. In German. I'm not exactly excelling in that class.

Wow. A "Hi I'm new" thread that's got to 2 pages without being locked.

That said, looks like we've already gone waay off topic

The second half isn't funny. It's not supposed to be. The first half isn't really funny either, it's only portrayed as humorous. The second half is the whole damn point -- in its most basic form, war is bad, and life in general ain't much better. Like all of Kubricks films, it could stand to be at least a half hour shorter, but IMO that doesn't detract from what he's trying to say.

Wow, I know it isn't supposed to be funny, if that's why you think I didn't like it (or "get it"). Even as a "War is Hell" movie, which it is intended to be, the second half completely fails, even (especially?) compared to war films of the time. The film's trying to show how war corrupts people, but it offers nothing new, nothing surprising and especially nothing interesting.

Furthermore, Kubrick gets his message across quite plainly - and in a far more inventive and darkly humorous way - in the first half than in the "been there, done that" second half.

I probably have no grounds for interjecting here, as I've never seen FMJ, but I did happen to catch a 5+ hour documentary about the life of Stanley Kubrick. He was quoted as saying something along lines of, "I've already made a 'War is Hell' film. I just want to make a 'War' film this time," in regards to Full Metal Jacket.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Sorry I assumed, Grant. Whenever someone tells me they don't like the second half, it's usally because they don't think it's funny, and it makes me want to kick them in the teeth.

Other than that it's a matter of opinion, so *shrug*.

Stardust, I rarely ever say this about anyone on the internet, but...you sound hot. Are you?

Oh, and I hated Eyes Wide Shut. Either it was too avant-garde for my cheap tastes or Pinser-text (tell me if this is the right term) really isn't all that it's cut out to be and Tom Cruse is really boring like in most other films he has done.

How can text sound hot?
Mind you, Kubrick's films divide opinions most of the time, wether it's his intention or not is unclear although he did say that most of his films are misunderstood.
