Action Replay isn't the same thing, they don't save on the codes, so no damage, and they all work...Green Gibbon! wrote:Trash it. GameShark peripherals have, from the best I can assess, about a 60/40 percent chance of functioning properly. And then if you do get a working one, there's no telling for long it'll continue working, and there's even the risk of permanent damage to your system. Most retailers have an "all sales final" policy regarding GameShark merchandise. Back at GameStop, it was the one item in the store we absolutely would not take a return on.Anyone own this thing, too? I could use some advice.
In general, you should avoid using third-party peripherals altogether. The only off-brand I'd ever recommend would be Logitech.

I really don't understand the whole cheating culture in video games. There's magazine and practically a whole industry dedicated to it. When I was 12 or 13 I was kind of into codes that enhanced playability (like I can understand using a level select if you've beaten a game that you can't save - thankfully few of those these days), but I never used a Game Genie/ Game Shark (except to play imports). What's the point of the game if you're invincible the whole time and just have to hold forward?

I wait 'till I've beaten the game honestly, back it up on the PC, then put in codes that make the game more fun. Like in Sonic Advance there is a "fly" code, and in Sonic Advance 2, the "Max Rings" code gives you unbelievable speed, which makes the game almost twice as fun. (And no one give me that "Oh, Sonic Advance 2 was fun?" crap, please.)
Edit: Plus with Action Replay/GameShark, you can download and import the special Chao like the Amy Chao and such.

It sort of depends on how you want to play the game. I imagine some people just have fun button mashing and destroying everything in their path. The only time I've ever used a GameGenie was with Sonic 1 after we had had the game for several years. We used a highjumping code which added a whole new level of exploring to the game. I never new that in Marble Zone you could just skip the underground part by jumping over it. Well, I guess you can't without the code, but it was still cool. Since the code made you jump without turning into a ball you couldn't kill the final boss, but it was still something cool to do. Being invincible is fun too, it obviously gets boring a lot faster than a game that is actually a challenge, but I never mind occasionally running through a level being invincible. Of course I haven't done it in a lengthy amount of time, but I consider playing Halo on normal mode invisibility.Bo wrote:I really don't understand the whole cheating culture in video games. How much would you pay? I have all the following downloads from Sonic Adventure archived:aso wrote: I'm wondering if any of their other games have had something familiar. I know that Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast had downloadable 'add-ons' for a few areas in the game (which are, unfortunately, gone forever - unless someone still has one or two on a VMU, in which case I'd actually pay you to be able to see them). I know that SA2 also had costumes for each of the characters, also downloadable.

It's not so much that it wouldn't be fun, it just that it would make it damn unplayable
