It's good until the second disc, about the last 5-10 hours of game time. Then you just get pages and pages of text explaining what's happening, interspersed with the occasional dungeon. Apparently they just literally ran out of money at that point and had to hurry the game along.
It's really good up to that point, though.

I find it funny everyone's ignoring BS's plea for help.
I've played Xenogears all the way through on a PS2. I think there was one time where the game crashed or froze up, but it played pretty smoothly most of the time. You might want to forego the Double CD speed and smooth texture options though, 9 out of 10 times those kind of errors occur because of those particular enhancements.
Now you want a game that fucks up on you constantly, pop in FFVII.
Hoo boy.
Hey Big, I don't know of any actual players that'll open SFD files but I have access to conversion software that happens to sport the Softdec logo. Maybe I can do something with 'em, toss me a line. Though, it's been a LONG time since I ripped the SCD movies from GC SMC so don't expect too much.
On the other hand, if you'd rather try it yourself, grab a copy of TMPGEnc 2.5 or Xpress. One of either should be able to open the files.
In other news, I'm looking forward to Xenosaga 2 despite the fact that a number of the original VAs were replaced by new blood. SaaaaaaD. Also, I too enjoyed Xenogears immensely, it tried to do far too much in one shot but what it put forth hit the spot nicely. On the other hand, Xenosaga is trying to divvy up the plot into fiber-filled chunks that didn't quite satisfy the hunger after the first plateful.
As for gameplay, if they can find a way to return to the simplicity of Chrono Trigger's Double-Triple Tech system I'd be a happy camper. As I understand it X2 will employ Double Techs which I'm looking forward to seeing how well it will be implemented.
Speaking of CT, word on the street is that one of the original scenario writers for the Chrono and Xeno series of games, who left Monolith Soft last month to rejoin Square-Enix may have been enticed away from the group by the chance to produce another addition to the Chrono franchise.
...
But... I ain't one to gossip so you ain't heard that from me.

Is that true? I can see why they'd beg him to return, all like, "Yeah, it turns out we really need you... evidently nobody else at this whole company can write worth a damn..."word on the street is that one of the original scenario writers for the Chrono and Xeno series of games, who left Monolith Soft last month to rejoin Square-Enix
By the way, has anyone caught that new Xenosaga anime? Is it any good?

The part about leaving Monolith? Yeah. Everything else is conjecture and heresay. And I quote:Green Gibbon! wrote:Is that true? In an odd situation of one "saga" losing another, Scenario Writer Soraya Saga has announced on her website that she will no longer be associated with the Xenosaga series. Sorya Saga and her husband/coworker Tetsuya Takahashi played integral parts in the writing of event scenes for Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseit von Gut und Boese, and Xenogears. Through the early to mid 1990's, she helped with the graphic design of Romancing SaGa, Final Fantasy VI, and a few other Squaresoft games.
Saga did not say exactly why she has left, and gives indication that such information might never be made public, as the previously linked website requests "no inquiry please," after explaining her departure in the words "Soraya Saga is no longer involved with this series." Thus far, there has been no announcement regarding her future or that of the Xenosaga games. Xenosaga: Episode II will give North Americans another look at Saga and Takahashi's work next month.
According to a FAQ on her website meant to deter the idiotic from bombarding her with bullshit, she left mainly because her work was being compromised by Monolith Soft's new writing team on the Xenosaga project.
As with most game adaptations, new stuff is added, others taken out; resulting in a slightly different beast trying to tell the same story.Green Gibbon! wrote:By the way, has anyone caught that new Xenosaga anime? Is it any good?
I'd have to say no. And yet, here I am awaiting the next fansub. Contradiction!
