Ah, I didn't, but it's cool to know the real story anyway. Cool that I was close, too. Though how many people would have voted for a guy like the song describes... I don't like his chances. :)In case you wanted to know...
Don't know if anyone here likes the Beatles...

Well, it's cool that you've listened to Abbey Road, anyway. Great, great album, IMO..
Maxwell's Silver Hammer doesn't mean anything other than what the song says. It's just a novelty song about a serial killer who kills people with, er, a silver hammer. Supposedly, none of the others cared for the song except for McCartney, who wrote it. But that was in typical McCartney fashion - he usually wrote songs as stories about other people and Lennon wrote about himself.
And this has been your Beatles Education 101 for the day..

Apparently the uniquely deranged "Maxwell's silver hammer" was about the downfalls in life, to quote macca - "Just when things are going smoothly, Bang Bang, down comes maxwell's silver hammer and ruins everything". Although admittedly the song doens't make that much more sense when viewed from this perspective either.

The other story about Maxwell's Silver Hammer was that time and time again after they recorded it, Paul was not happy with what they recorded so he made them keep on playing the song over and over again.

Come to think of it it might have been lennon who said it was about the downfalls of life, if paul intentionally wrote it about a deranged homicidal maniac. I don't know. I'd like to call myself a beatlemaniac, but I just can't pass muster on closer inspection.
I'd like to call myself a sonic fan too, but there you are.
