Well, I'm so much of a milksop that even if my parents did leave me alone in the house (and that's a big if; they have even less of a social life than I do), I probably wouldn't do that much. At the most I'd do what GG! and SuperKnux said: extra porn and extra wanking. And maybe I'd listen to my MP3 of "Crazy Train" a lot (truth be told, it's the only Ozzy Osborne song I like). Oh, and I'd watch all the retro-infused music videos basic cable can get (The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, The Donnas, Jet... and whatever new stuff U2 and Duran Duran have got on T.V. And Evanesence, too -- not that retro, but still cool).
I'd also feel less inhibited by the T.V. shows I watch: I wouldn't have to worry about waiting for Mom and Dad to be in bed before I turn on Adult Swim (Go Team Venture!). For some odd reason, Dad has something against any cartoon which clearly isn't made for the young'uns (he draws the line at PG-level stuff: super hero shows and films like "Shrek" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"... though the latter really isn't all that family-friendly, when you think about it), especially if it's from Fox (personally, if he could get past that, he'd rather like "Futurama" -- it's right up his alley). And he shies away from most anime, despite watching "Astroboy" and "Gigantor" as a kid. Then again, he has been improving lately; he had me record "Read or Die" for him a few weeks back, and he's watched "Inu-Yasha" every now and then. "Cowboy Bebop" would probably make him piss himself, though.
Oh, and Mom: she's just anti-social.
Anyhow, there is, however, a slight chance I might do something rash: like try to lose my virginity, or something. Like that'd happen...
Poker?
Oh, though I'm gonna try to get both soon (college and a job), as soon as I can find the time.
I know about PhatBoy and Possessed Spam, but I never knew you had another one (given your choice of words, I'm presuming a sister?). Huh.
Think you know a guy...
Fourteen hours away? What part of Asia are you from, anyhow? What's it like there? I'm bored, please humor me.
I have weird friends.
Oh, and j-man... your pictures, and their accompanying captions, are hilarious.

I can sorta understand the pizza and cigars, but what would want the bear for? Is he a houseguest? Does he do tricks?Delphine wrote:My parents aren't terribly strict, so if I wanted pizza and bear and cigars for supper, they probably wouldn't care.

I don't have one either, but in my case, it's 'cause I'm mind-boggling depressed, and when I get mind-bogglingly depressed, I proverbially curl up into a fetal position and whimper (I'm on an ass-load of medications, one of which I've been on pretty much non-stop since fifth grade. I know someone who has that movie. She's a friend of mine with an interest in British sitcoms and gratuitously-violent action movies. We met in middle school and in recent years I've developed a bit of a crush on her (when we first met in seventh grade, I didn't know her all that well. Well that, and in the last few years she lost a lot of weight and... um, developed quite a bit. Rrrrr). She doesn't understand "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" either. She's smart, funny, nice, and a great deal more emotionally stable than myself. Needless to say, I haven't a chance in Hell with her...bcdcdude wrote:Did have one night of beer and a showing of Battle Royale with a couple of mates, but that was it.

I still get living expenses paid. However, when I graduate (hopefully with enough fluency in French and Japanese and other buttkicking skills), I want to go back to Asia and get me a really hot job. Such as... oh, I dunno. I don't plan on going back home to live.

Hey, those work. Speaking of odd career choices, I have another friend who, while he plans upon becoming a musician after he's done in the Navy (he didn't want to join, but it's the only way he could get a college education, as his parents didn't want to pay for it and he wasn't poor enough to qualify for grants/scholarships), but until then, he's being trained as a "Dental Technician" and for "Search and Rescue". One of these days, I'm gonna make a custom "G.I. Joe" toy of him, I think he'd like that...Baba O'Riley wrote:My main prospects are a better-than-average knowledge of Science, a Technology Academy, and a band. I love Futurama. It's so awesome - and I'm not even remotely close to being a geek, other than perhaps having the nerd part down pat. :PThe Scarlet Scorpion wrote:(personally, if he could get past that, he'd rather like "Futurama" -- it's right up his alley).
OK... I was born in Boston, grew up in Dallas/Houston, Texas, moved to Taiwan when I was 10 and lived there for nine years, the highlight of that long stretch of time being meeting NT in 2002. Now I live in Austin, TX, attending university and craving "real" Chinese foodFourteen hours away? What part of Asia are you from, anyhow? What's it like there? I'm bored, please humor me.
As for what it's like... I think I'd label the teen culture "wannabe Japan." In Taiwan, everything is all about the cutesy-cutesy, and who is it - Squirrelknight? Would be pleased in the pants because apparently Hikaru Utada or however you spell her name is fairly popular there, along with a buttload of other generic-looking Japanese girls with reddish-brown dyed hair, surgically enhanced eyes and boobs, and babydoll makeup. And those weird flouncy skirts that make them look like they walked into a fabric garbage bag. In case you were wondering, anime-girl mannerisms (high-pitched little giggles, carefully pointed fingers, ^_^ looks) were definitely modeled after real life Asians - not some figment of a demented artist's imagination. Although I'll say the tentacles and lack of nose aren't natural. In case you had your hopes up. <-- is referring to random hentai/anime images I have inadvertently wandered across in my roamings of this forum
The shopping is incredible.
As for other, non-pop-geared life... everything is fresh fresh fresh, from the veggies picked from garden patches the morning you buy them, to fish freshly caught that same morning, to still-bleeding hunks and halves and quarters of pigs and chickens (appetizing). Of course, there are regular supermarkets, but people tend to eschew them in favor of the traditional markets where it stinks like hell and you can bargain for fresher eggs or lower prices. It's all about the relationship with the seller - if you're nice to her (or if you tow around 4 kids, like my mom used to), they find you interesting, or they just want to get rid of produce, you can get some crazy deals on food.
Oh, and did I mention how good ALL the food tastes? Even the seafood, sometimes... and I hate seafood. That's saying a lot.
We (Taiwan) also probably have the world's largest variety of fruits and greenhouse-raised hybrids (mango papayas, apple-pears, etc.).
Transportation is mainly via tiny mopeds - generally not the hunky, sexy motorcycles I associate with gangs and guys who try to impress me... they're those mini affairs upon which old grannies solemnly wend their way through traffic, placidly ignoring the symphony of angry honks from cars they force to brake in an attempt to avoid killing them. [anticipates a nasty comment from Sega] I think most people have a car, but rarely get a chance to use it because parking is notorious all over the island, not to mention gas is about twice to three times (according to my dad) the price it is here in America, even in CA. Mass transportation is huge - MRTs, buses, and taxis dominate the main city, Taipei, and consequently is one of my favorite places in the world. I love the freedom of being able to get anywhere I want with a swipe card and my two legs.
Can't think of much else to say.. other than the fact that I spend most of my summer playing basketball (I'd call this the unofficial sport of the country), sweating from the constant 90+ humidity, standing in front of fans to try to dissipate said sweat, being pissed that there is no A/C, and showering in a final attempt to rid self of said sweat. Very glamorous.
Blah. I wouldn't've posted all that if I hadn't been procrastinating on a 10-page paper I need to write... to turn in tomorrow. Oh, woe is me.
Oh, and I also have three sibs, like GG!. Only they're all boys. No, you can't date 'em.

Psssh, don't compare Hikki-chan to those kogals. Her hair is her natural silky black, her eyes are still Chink-ified, and while she does have respectably sized..um, mammaries for a Japanese girl, I'm relatively confident that they're natural.chix0rgirl wrote:

Err, anyway, she's cute, so I'm gonna take this opportunity to post a picture of Hikaru, the epitome of human perfection:

Your description of the Wapanese girls there are probably more comparable to say, um, Ayumi Hamasaki-- Hair dyed to hell, unnaturally shaped eyes, etc... Plus, um, Ayumi's music sucks. She's also considered Hikaru's rival, if you're wondering why I hate Ayumi so much.
Here's a picture of stupid ol' Ayumi, just so you can compare her to the far superior Hikaru above.

Anyway, getting back on topic, after reading your description, I would like to visit Taiwan. My brief-stop-over in Taipei was relatively pleasant, and I'd like to see more of the country (or the girls, anyway), I suppose that country is the third on my list of places to visit-- First of which would be Tokyo, for the games, manga, and girls, and second would be Hong Kong, for the cheap-everything and the girls (who may or may not be cheap).
Of course, my knowledge of Japanese, Mandarin, and Cantonese is limited to profanity and bad pick-up lines, so I doubt I'll see any action if I do ever visit those places.[/img]

Psssh, I pretty much have a 0% chance with any girl, so I might as well have a pointless infatuation with a girl I can never get because, well, every girl in universe is a girl I can never get.
Hikaru-chan isn't that only Asian singer I like... Mai Kuraki is cuter than a box full of kittens being carried by Chococat down a street lined with dancing sunflowers, and Korean/Japanese popstar BoA is hot... Hot as in "That girl is so hot I wanna fuck her until I get dehydrated"

I got out of high school in summer of 2003 and I've lived at home since, jobless and alone. I would go to college but I hated regular old school, I'd be the only guy on campus who would graduate a virgin, I can't afford the damn thing, and I don't believe in loans.
It's hard to get a job where I'm from. Fuckin' Ollie's won't hire me. Do you know what that's like?
I live in the biggest city in the county, and it's still Pennsylvania's answer to Skunklick Falls, Arkansas, or something. We have NOTHING. We have a Subway, a Wal*Mart, a KMart, we just got a Sears, and we're lucky the damn Blockbuster hasn't closed up yet. I find it hysterical that NONE of these places will hire me, even though I have chronic writer's cramp filling out the damn applications.
My life sucks and I'm waiting to die. Until then, I'm basically stuck here. In a message board. With you guys.

Depressing isn't it Doc.
Yes, I know what it's like. Application after application, nobody is calling me back. Then, when I do call them (the following day I turned in my application, mind you) they come up with some bullshit answers. "Uh, I haven't gotten through all the applications yet, but if something comes up, we'll give you a call" is a class response.
A few weeks ago, I didn't know the number of the place I applyed for, so I went by the store and actually spoke to the manager. She started to grin, and was holding back to laugh, and said, "Oh, I'm sorry.. the position has been filled already. He starts this week. But, if he doesn't show up, we'll give you a call." Man, they make me feel like crap sometimes, and I'm tired of filling out applications.

I liked Ayumi until she started dying her hair freaky colors and looked like a plastic Barbie doll. Before that (back in, oh, 1999), though, she was cute, and sang *GASP* decent songs. Not anymore, though, and Avex Trax should just let her go already.Squirrelknight wrote: Your description of the Wapanese girls there are probably more comparable to say, um, Ayumi Hamasaki-- Hair dyed to hell, unnaturally shaped eyes, etc... Hikaru's cuter than Ayumi at her cutest, though, and is a better singer. No doubt about that.
