Looks like the election is coming down to my state, Ohio. Maybe my vote will have actually mattered!

Isn't it? Seriously, what's wrong with people wanting to be treated like people?

I don't think the gov't should have anything to do with it, really. Marriage is a religious ceremony, and should stop there. I can just as easily vow to spend my life with someone without a fucking piece of paper to prove it.

I couldn't vote, I missed the registration date but I only turned 18 after the first hurricane hit Florida so it was all screwy... Anyway Jeb rigs it... And speaking of prejudice, who has heard that the Nixon White House may have created AIDS as part of The U.S. Special Virus Cancer Program to kill off all non white-Europeans... But I also believe that Skull and Bones run the US from the shadows... As for marriage, the government should stay out of it like alcohol and drugs, which the only reason they care about any of them in the first place is so they can tax them...

Hey I know its a conspiracy theory, I know it makes me sound crazy but what hell I like them... I believe that that Jesus was married and that there are Illuminati related symbols on the back of the dollar... On a related note to those don't read Dan Brown books while on drugs... Hell I believe there was more than one person involved with the JFK Assassination, Oswald was the lone gunman but it was set into motion by others... So I'm crazy, hell atleast I know it...

The only one of those things I can agree with is the Illuminati symbols on the dollar bill.

Marriage is a religious ceremony, and should stop there.
Actually, it's not even really religious, or it hasn't been historically. Some form of marriage exists in every organized culture on the planet, and there are a bazillion different forms, but regardless of what form it takes, it's designed to be an economic and social boost to the parties involved. Today, in the culture we live in now, it's entirely possible to be purely independent. It's feasible for a single person, male or female, to completely support him/herself. The relationships that develop between individuals in this sort of culture are basically purely sexual and short-lived. With no social or economic benefits, there's really no reason at all to tie yourself down to any other individual for longer than you have interest in that person. Be that 5 weeks or 5 years. I don't even know what the numbers are now, aren't less than 50% of marriages successful? Not only is it a practice that we don't need in this culture at this point in time, it's a plain bad idea.

And what if you have interest in that person for the rest of your life?

Fuck nuts.

Gibbon beat me to it; I was about to say almost the same thing (maybe a little less eloquently and without the 'we don't need marriage at all' part).

Well, looks like Bush is closing in.

Just to let you guys know, I'm willing to adopt anyone who wants to flee across the border.

I'm getting my bags ready.

Still, according to CNN, it's too close to call - especially in Ohio. There are as many as 600 thousand votes not accounted for yet, and we definitely won't know until AT LEAST tomorrow because of "fatigue".

That said, I've almost given up.

Caroline Dhavernas from Wonderfalls, a show that was cancelled on Fox for being too entertaining.

Meh, it's actually still an important and significant ceremony to some people. Others just do it becaus they're dumbasses.

Anyway, looks like Bush may win. And I also think that he may be picking some Supreme Court judges if he does, so I wouldn't hold my breath for gay marriage or abortion options or anything socially progressive for a good while.

edit: And Fox is a whole box of dumb and wouldn't know a good show if it slapped it's dick in their faces.

I'm still in my "Politics suck, ask me when I care" stage, which I KNOW I'm going to regret later in my life, considering my life is filled with bitter irony.

Didn't have time to vote. Besides, Alabama's 5 electoral votes were guaranteed for Bush from the start.

I'm honestly hoping that Kerry wins, even though I like him no better than Bush... honestly, anyone would be better than 4 more years with Dubya. The abortion stance, the gay marriage stance, faith-based initiatives, and on it goes...

Er, Grant's never claimed to be Brit. He even says: "Location: Bowling Green, OH".

In case anyone hasn't heard the news, Kerry's going to concede. We've another four years of Bush.

So, how's Canada this time of year?

A lot can happen in four years.

An attack that kills 3,000 people, or an Act which takes away a hell of a lot of rights in the name of so-called security, or a bunch of bible-thumping whackos making sure the icky gays never get anything such as the ability to live their lives without being spit on...
