I actually made sure to pick up Kingdom Hearts with my PS2, back when I bought it in August. I played it a bit, put it down somewhere around the Tarzan world for a month or so... and then picked it back up and simply couldn't stop playing. So I then nabbed Kingdom Hearts 2, having finished the first one, and there I am again, entranced by the game with little understanding of why.

I mean, I really don't understand it. I love most of the worlds, certainly, but I'd have to be one hollow shell of a man to not love Disney films. I even acknowledged that Sora being shoehorned into all the plots was a bit... cheesy. The fighting is passable, but it really does boil down to hitting X a lot, maybe O in a few cases to start an aerial combo (which, for some reason, is a lot more effective for me in KH2 than my ground combos are). The game isn't even that HARD, as most of the enemies are pushovers, with the exception of those annoying Nobodies with the futuristic cubes and any and all secret bosses (I haven't even THOUGHT of taking Sephiroth on yet).

And yet, the whole shebang has some undeniable charm to it. I find myself playing for hours on end, even though neither the plot nor the gameplay are really much to write home about. Maybe because it's akin to a very colorful platformer (albeit I think most of the platforming was in the first one; the second game's worlds seem to be a lot flatter for some reason), and that's the kind of game I like? I dunno.

I do know this, though: Chain of Memories was my introduction to the series, and I simply couldn't get into it. Couldn't make heads or tails of what the hell was happening in combat. As of such, even if it'll bridge the gap between the two main games, I'll be giving the game a pass. Certainly, mashing on the X button isn't the most riveting combat mechanic I've ever seen, but at least I can figure out what's going on during the battles.

Oh, and that Final Fantasy thing was a delightful way for me to waste several hours. Hours I should've spent doing projects and homework before this last week of classes ends. Bleh.

It's because -- hold onto you hats here, folks -- the games are fun. They are not the greatest, most well-thought out, artistic works of vidya our generation has ever seen. They are fun. This is what games are for.

I didn't play Chain of Memories because I didn't really need to replay the first game but smaller and harder to see, but I'll probably rent the PS2 remake. If I can find time between catching up on all the games coming out this season. Jaysus.

I was actually surprised by the amount of new story in a game I was expecting to be a rehash. At the very least, it was enough to keep me playing it the whole time. Don't think I'ma pick this one up, though. Now if they did a KH compilation…

Looks like Kingdom Hearts Online is a reality, in all but name and the Keyblades and Final Fantasy cast.

If they really wanted to be good, they should merge Toontown and Pirates of the Carribean online with it to make a really varied experience.

Also, they're making a Lilo and Stitch anime, but without Lilo. Instead, replacing her with a Japanese girl. And a really ugly chicken creature.

Here's the website for Kingdom Hearts Online. ER, I mean Disney Fantasy Online. Totally different. Ignore the Disney characters dressed up like Nomura versions. There's no relation, we swear.

Looks like the Keyblades are now magic wands. I wonder if Disney even bothered to approach Square with this idea in the first place?

Not interested unless you can play as Darkwing Duck.

A few seconds after seeing that, I immediately blurted out "WHY IN FUCKING HELL DIDN'T THEY MAKE IT THAT WAY IN THE FIRST PLACE!?"

Seriously, I initially played KH because I wanted to see the Disney crossover. The Final Fantasy stuff was just icing on the cake (thought not the best flavor since it only consists of my least favorite parts of the series). This is like too little too late for me.

Actually it's been airing for a while. I have yet to see it for very obvious reasons.
