My problem with the Taiwan recall plot is that it seems like it would be a retread of Toy Story 2. Let's say he gets recalled. Then what? He finds toys that need him and want him to stay with them and then realizes in the end, he's still Andy's toy so he goes back. Off the top of my head I can't think of a way to not let it be a retread of Toy Story 2.

I can't help thinking the "Buzz has been recalled" story would actually be a secret plot to get consumers to ease up on those toxic Chinese paints and deadly bite-sized magnets.

So any ideas on where they're going to go with Toy Story 3?
Andy grows up and donates all of his old toys to a daycare, where they have to learn to adapt.

Actually, Toy Story 1-3 was actually planned as a single movie. It was going to be about lost toys (1), who are pursued by an evil toy collector (2), and are abandoned when their owner grows up to a preschool where they finally find permanent happiness (3). They couldn't cover all of that in one movie, so they just adapted the first third and weren't even planning to make sequels until the demand became so great. Then they luckily had 2 other plots just lying around.

It's really sad to see that all these computer-animated render films seem to replace the classical hand drawn cartoon.

Supposedly the ultimate end to the story has Buzz, Woody and the other as toys being left at some sort of preschool or children's center, so they can continue to be played with for generations even if the individual kids outgrow them.

It's not like the quality of the films is differently proportioned for CG films. Most of them suck, and some are really good. Same as it ever was, and Pixar's stuff is just as good (often better) than some of the best cell animated stuff. Besides, there's still Miyazaki and that fish-princess movie coming if you really need some computer-free animation.

Frog Princess.

Is that Peter Gabriel, as in "Sledgehammer" Peter Gabriel? That's fucking cool as hell.

Wall-E was beautiful in a way that you probably couldn't achieve with cel animation. It was honestly artistically driven, so the old 2D vs. 3D argument is irrelevant.

Pixar's movies are artistic, yes. But tell me that crap like "Barnyard" or "Open Season" is artistic?

Right, because all 2D animation was High Art. Shitty movies exist in any format, so deal with it.

The GI Joe movie wasn't played in theaters though, was it?

I'm actually having trouble thinking of a truly awful post-Little Mermaid animated movie that was in theaters. Probably I just didn't even see them. (Plus I know if I list a couple ones I didn't like someone'll pop up and say it was his favorite or something.)

I've also got to point out Studio 4C (MindGame, Genius Party, Noiseman Sound Insect), Alexander Petrov (The Old Man and the Sea, My Love) and Sylvain Chomet (Belleville Rendez-vous) as other bastions holding up the tradition of 2D animation.

Genius Party in particular looks incredible, holding true to taking advantage of the medium.

Funny thing about the G I Joe movie: It's theatrical run was canceled based on the poor box office performance of Transformers the movie. Gem was canceled altogether.

Also there were plenty of shitty 2d post mermaid films. Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, Quest for Camelot, Osmosis Jones, and Pebble and the penguin just to name a few.

Also that Peter Gabriel song was obnoxious as hell. "PLANT A TREE!!!!"

She ain't no Ben Stiller.

Actually, I usually greatly enjoy the actors they choose. I think it's because Pixar hires actors as opposed to comedians.

So yeah, on the topic of both CGI and japanese animation, you might want to take a look at this. Or not - it seemed pretty interesting, until I saw the voice cast. Unknowns aside, eep.

I'm pumped for that Fantasy movie Pixar is going to be releasing in a couple of years. Pixar doing medieval fantasy for the first time is going to be fan-fuckingtastic.

Although I've never seen it, Treasure Planet is both a blessing and a curse to me at the same time. It's a curse mainly because its failing at the box office is what drove Disney to close down its 2-D animation studio in California and switch to CG crap like Chicken Little. But at the same time it's a sort of blessing, because Disney used said chicken film to prove to Pixar they can stand on their own two legs in the CG film department, and Chicken Little was successful enough in theaters and video sales to allow them to (eventually) buy out Pixar. Which I'm glad for, because Cars would've been a really lousy sendoff as being the last Pixar film released by Disney.

And duh on Madagascar 2 going to suck. Only recently has Dreamworks Animation started pumping out half-way decent films (Kung Fu Panda is actually really good, and Bee Movie is definitely better than, say, Shark Tale or Shrek 2/3), and now they're going to go back to making endless sequels and Shrek spinoffs.
