Again, they're reporting on this far too early... Why can't they wait until we have something PLAYABLE before reporting on it? Christ.

Maybe you should not put the stuff online where everyone can see it if you want the project to stay low profile.

Well i'm just thinking here, that they had no reason to expect the media outlets/bloggers to go apeshit for it already.

I'm a huge fan of Sonic 2. I believe that it's without a doubt the best game in the series. I look forward to this, but I have a question.

Why add a smile on Sonic's face? This is part of what has ruined sonic and what he's become lately. Sonic isn't in this for fun or for chili dogs or to play the guitar. Sonic's friends have been imprisoned inside robots and now they're shooting at him, throwing coconuts at him, drilling into him. He's risking his life to save the world. So to me, the pixelated versions of sonic and tails still look better. He's determined, he's pissed, and he's putting himself aside to save his friends. That's what made me respect him when I was young, and that's what I want back.
Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the line of thinking that gave us Shadow and Were Sonic. Please kill this man.

Haha. No that's not the line of thinking that brought us Shadow. The original games were about fun but also had a little more depth than just a cartoon animal jumping around. It was about a wee animal jumping around freeing his friends and stopping his planet becoming a metallic madness. the worst thing about SA2 is that no wee animals come out of the robots except for those boring gamma things. robotnik has been impotent since s3 and k. He no longer seems to control large swathes of the planet. maybe sonic was too successful.

I sympathize with him. I like it when Sonic is serious. I don't think his expression looks bad or worse on these sprites, but I find it more immersive if Sonic looks like he's focused on the life threatening things he's doing.

Super Sonic's smile looks weird, though. That's supposed to be his anger-stoked-power-trip-SSJ-knockoff form. He should either have a badass/smartass grin or a neutral mouth.

I don't get it. He's smiling in the original cover art, in the original title screens, in all the new games... fuck, Sonic is smiling everywhere, can't you see it?
The Ristar thing was totally stupid, they tried to give him more 'tude than Sonic or something, but didn't realize that he was even more lighthearted than Sonic himself.

The only old Sonic sprite where I can figure out he isn't smiling is his S3&K Super Sonic state (and even then it's just a comical parody), that's all.

Have you even played SA2? Animals come out of every single robot made by Eggman.

The problem being, of course, that most of the robots aren't made by Eggman.

I'd probably only play this graphical update of Sonic 2 if it somehow made its way to consoles and if a complete version of Hidden Palace was included. I have no qualms with Sonic smiling in the sprites. I always kind of envisioned him having a ball tearing up Eggman's robots and going through colorful locales.

The smile is kind of weird. Obviously the Sonic smirk is a bit of a trademark, but unless you're the Joker a smile is only a temporary facial expression. A relentless, unmoving, unending smile is creepy!

I believe that's what the idle, hanging-over-a-ledge and dying animations were made for.

The smirk could get annoying, but he probably looked more odd without a mouth.
