... People are not being sarcastic when they say SNES sounds better than SEGA CD?

I meant depressing in that I thought the SNES version looked and sounded incredible, and the Genesis version looked bland by comparison. Looking at it now I see it's really not that profound but I do prefer the blue background. I had assumed that it was due to some palette issue (like how New Junk City is grainy-looking on Genesis).

EWJ was developed for the Genesis while a separate team concentrated on porting over their work to the SNES. That team "enhanced" the game's visuals with some colour changes and background effects, taking advantage of the SNES's broader palate and better transparency effects but also making some completely arbitrary style changes. And they also cut intestinal distress, and removed frames from a lot of the game's animation cycles.

That's why, as a general rule, I prefer the Windows version's take on "enhancing" the original game. The palate is upped, but stays faithful to the original art, and it has all the stages and bonus content of the Sega CD version.

I got a Sega CD!

So, what games I should try to get for it?

These shots are all from the iphone version, but they can probably give us an idea of what to expect from the console versions.

It looks pretty faithful, but in motion the animation is kind of screwed up and oddly timed:

Hopefully that's just a problem with the iphone version.

I doubt it, it looks like the running animation has been re-timed entirely.

I can't say I really like the graphics, either. Too smooth and artificial-looking. A common problem with trying to hard to replicate 16-bit graphics at double or more the resolution.

No sir, I don't like it.

What is the point of only slightly making it look 'better' ?

At least the music and extra levels should be there. And here is hoping they remove that stupid submarine thing.

Yeah, the iPhone port videos showed custom remixes of the stage tunes, but the latest PRs said that the music was straight from Special Edition. The iPhone port level listing ignores Big Bruty, but the latest PRs say that stage is in. So... yeah, a bit contradictory. I'd assume the PR is more reliable, since it's newer.

I wonder if that guy is having trouble with that jump in the Heck stage because he sucks or because the iPhone controls do?
