I think that character art comes from either the Japanese Sonic Jam manual or the Japanese Sonic 3 one.

Also... what's the need to lie with the game's screenshots in its very box art? I mean, most of the Sonic '06 in-game screens weren't there in the final product, but they at least looked like the real (totally unfinished) thing. Was this some questionable decision of Tiger's greedy execs, or did they just do it for the lulz or something?

That's about it. It was a pretty great way to waste 45 minutes, and I got to tell Holic to eat a dick via the magic of Pico. I think we can all agree a good time was had.

Oh god, I had one of the picture books with those things as a child, and I loved it.
