Retarded, yet absolutely awesome. You clearly need to get your shit unfucked, 'cause playable Darth Vader is not something to be frowned upon under any circumstances. I hope we get Jar Jar next!

It's idiotic. They look so out of place! I enjoyed Link and Hihatchi in Soul Calibur 2, but that's probably because they kind of fit in with the game's style and setting, and don't fly freaking spaceships on a regular basis!

Can I just go on record and say that Yoda with the lightsabre wasn't badass? At all? Docile Yoda, who I always figured fought swiftly and smoothly, gets hopped up on meth and jumps all over the fucking place way too ridiculously fast. Like... shit, a green Sonic.

And, yes, Link being in Soul Calibur II was badass. Before it was discovered what a messy, chaotic, buttonmash orgy Soul Calibur II turned out to be. More on the level of Sonic & Mario in the Olympic games than Sonic in Brawl.

It's kinda cool but some how reeks of something resembling desperation.

It's interesting that the two least appropriate Jedi in the SW universe were chosen for this. Yoda is obviously dumb -- has been since that awful, awful movie came out -- and seeing Vader perform any action more intense than a lightsaber swing always seems weird to me. The whole reason why Vader is such a menacing character is that he doesn't have to fight; he can just force-choke you to death.

I'm not saying this isn't utterly cool (though it does seem desperate as Radrappy said), but I'd much prefer to see the likes of Darth Maul, Boba Fett, or even Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon. Of course, General Grievous is the obvious choice for the discriminating Star Wars gentleman.

I assume characters like Obi-Wan were avoided because they'd probably have to pay royalties to craft the characters' likenesses after the real actors. Then again, Star Wars is so heavily merchandised that the actors may have already signed off on stuff like that...

You know, since they're console exclusive characters it will be impossible to pit Yoda against Darth Vader. This means that pretty much any fight involving either of them is going to end up looking utterly retarded.

I think it's awesome, as if someone just wanted to make some Star Wars characters in a cool fighting game and hey, there you go. Imagine how shitty it would be if it were just a Star Wars fighting game? It'd just be a movie cash in! But if you put Darth Vader in Soul Caliber, you know someone involved there really cares. I think it's beautiful. Strange as hell. But beautiful.

At the same time though, it seems a shame to have to bring in Yoda rather than make their own tiny character. I suppose they thought it would be a neat idea, "y'know, like Yoda!" but really, if you can have it actually BE Yoda, then why not?

It's funny how Nintendo can pull this kind of shit and get critical praise while no one else can, I just love this double standard "Nintendo rox, Everyone else (maybe with the exception of Capcom) sux" thing.

Of course, the console exclusivity sucks because this time around both characters are from the same stupid franchise, and the fact that the series devolved from a technically brilliant fighter into an almost casual game with lotsa boobs to play with friends is still baffling, but the fact itself that there are Star Wars characters in it is definitely not wrong, or at least it's almost as wrong as Spawn the Eternal in SCII.

Something tells me that you'll be able to buy the other character a little while after launch. Downloadable content is the new "Eat things to get fat". I was kinda hoping for Jack Sparrow or that 300 guy. The one that yells Sparta all the time.

As long as Lucas doesn't design his very own character for the series it'll be okay.

Also, here is a rumour that might continue the trend of WTF: Mortal Kombat 8 will actually be Mortal Kombat Vs DC Comics, in a sort of Marvel Vs Capcom sort of thing. There is no real source. It turned up on the IGN boards one day.

Of course, if Namco ever decides to port SCIV to Wii (which, of course, will never happen), they can follow the trend the other games got and add in Luke Skywalker, in his Tatooine uniform, with his dad's old lightsaber. Think about it: if Namco thinks "Sony = black = Vader" and "Xbox = green = Yoda", wouldn't it make sense if "Nintendo = white/blue = Luke"?

...okay, I'll shut up now.

People accepted the addition of Sonic and Snake to Smash Bros because they were video game franchise characters being added to a video game franchise crossover fighter. They'd have been a lot less impressed if Nintendo had added Luke Skywalker, Naruto, Barbie, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Borat, Ronald McDonald, and Snoop Dogg.

Actually, I was talking about the crossover fighting game concept, not the addition of seemingly unrelated third-party characters (particularly Solid Snake). I also would rather have Guybrush Threepwood, Fulgore and/ or Otane Goketsuji, but an insanely popular film crossover is still kinda fine.

I know that Namco worked on Spawn: Armageddon and Todd McFarlane created Necrid for the console release of SCII, and seeing as the X-Box didn't have any notable weapon wielding characters at the time, they thought "Why not? Let's just toss Spawn in as the X-Box exclusive character". With Ryu Hayabusa moving into Microsoft's house, I think he would be a solid contendor in the 360 version of SCIV.

Twin Snakes was made for the Gamecube just so Snake could make an appearence in Brawl.

Getting back back to what this topic was originally about for a moment, from the Rare Witch Project website:
UPDATE: This project was in the research/development stage in Summer 2006. Since then the team who were working on it have been moved onto other things.
So, The Fast and the Furriest is dead and buried.

So this is Soul Calibur's what'th time to jump the shark, third?

SC2 with gimmick characters.
SC3 with terrible gameplay.
SC4 with both.

I doubt it, Tomonobu Itagaki (The DOA guy) never misses a chance to slag off Tekken. Yet he created DOA. Is that irony?

They did fix the balancing and gameplay issues in an arcade port of SC3. And apparently SC4 is being made from that port. There is hope for the gameplay.

Yeah, but DOA also has at least 10 times more boobage in it (not to mention TWO softcore porno volleyball games), so the slag is justified.
