If you really wanted Warioware Twisted you could just import it. The GBA is region free. And you're probably better off with the DS version of Animal Crossing anyway.James McGeachie wrote:I will have to give them credit though, it's only 2 months of a gap this time and Galaxy is being released in Europe in November as well, so we're not getting that badly screwed, or at least not in comparison to say Animal Crossing GC or Warioware Twisted (still not out, still pops up on NoE release schedules).
Why are you not playing Metroid Prime 3?

The only Metroid I've ever played was Super Metroid, which I quite liked but thought it was too long for it's own good. Should I play Metroid Prime? It looks like an FPS with platforming elements, and truth be told I've never sat down and seriously played an FPS (the last FPS game I ever played are my very early childhood memories of Wolfenstein, so the closest thing to FPS games I've ever played recently are Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 4). Is Metroid Prime as good as, say, the jump between Mario World and Mario 64?

My new roommate has a Wii and he bought some component cables and hooked it up to my oh so sexy tv. The unstolen one. Anyway, he bought it the other day, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I got Bioshock last week so I want to finish that first. Also if I never played Echoes is that terribly problematic? I beat 1 in its entirety with a guide after a few frustrated attempts without having any upgrades.
I still need to try out Zelda and Paper Mario too, its gonna be a busy winter with quantum and all these games.

While I'd say the jump between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime is indeed comparable to the jump between Mario World and Mario 64, if you thought Super Metroid was too long for its own good then, uh, I dunno if you'd really care for Prime's length.Cuckooguy wrote:The only Metroid I've ever played was Super Metroid, which I quite liked but thought it was too long for it's own good. I actually think that Metroid Prime is more faithful to the spirit of it's 2D predecessors than Mario 64 was to its own. Despite the shift in viewing perspective, it's no more a shooter and no less exploration-focused that Super Metroid was, which is probably why a lot of FPS fans don't like it very much.Cuckooguy wrote:The only Metroid I've ever played was Super Metroid, which I quite liked but thought it was too long for it's own good. But in any case, it definitely stands shoulder to shoulder with Mario as one of the most successful transitions to 3D ever. I bet you would like it!
My girlfriend is a long-time Metroid fan who is about as devoted to the franchise as most of us are -- or at least, were -- to Sonic. (See: Metroid Jello). She was pretty let down by Prime 2, but man, she is just raving with love for Prime 3 now. She's about seven hours ahead of me. It's getting hard to stop her from spoiling it!

If you liked Super Metroid but thought it was too long then probably you'd enjoy the GBA Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission. I don't know how they really measure up in terms of length but both place targets onto your automap periodically to give you specific objectives to go for, which tends to keep you on track and (I feel) reduces the length of the game, but in a way that I really like. It also keeps the game interesting, somehow I just HAVE to know what's on that glowing map tile.

Funny enogh, I JUST got my copy not long after making this thread.
"Awesome awesome awesome" is about all I can think about it right now. The controls are great, the visuals are nice, the voice-acting is SURPRISINGLY good (considering that I don't think Nintendo's ever done it to this extent before, EVER), and your first fight against Ridley is perhaps the BEST boss battle I have ever played.
@Flash: As far as I know, I don't think NP has made a Prime 3 Player's Guide--I saw a Prima one with the "Nintendo Seal" on it at the FYE where I got the game, but I didn't buy it (out of principle as well as not having enough monies). I checked the Nintendo website and online store later that day, and I couldn't find a listing for a guide anywhere.

I played it for a half hour or an hour. After my roommate beat what I think was the first boss until you get to the first planet is how far I played. I didn't like how you had weird looking teammates and what not, it does kinda conflict with the Metroid feel. If you are alone on the planets though that'll be good. My only other complaint would be the graphics cause I've been playing nothing but 360 games on an HDTV for awhile now. The only exceptions really were God of War when my tv was stolen and ICO this summer on my new tv. However I can get over the graphics since they arent that important and I imagine they'll look a lot better once I'm on a planet with vegetation rather than a fairly boring space station.
The controls took awhile to get used to, but I have also never used a Wii for more than a few minutes with Wii Sports 5 months ago. Once you get good with them I imagine they'll totally kickass.
I'm still gonna finish Bioshock before I start this though.

I think, barring perhaps the sole exception of the Zelda series, Metroid Prime is by far the most faithful 2D-to-3D jump a game franchise has ever made. And the first-person perspective is perfect for the game, I don't know what everyone complains about. When they're not drowning the Prime series in praise, I mean.Esrever wrote:

Yeah in an ideal scenario I was looking for Dark Samus to reform into the original Metroid Prime for the last showdown. The Aurora Unit was a terrible choice for an end boss honestly, it was obvious throughout the game they were setting it up simply to have a Mother Brain-esque creature to fight at the end but it simply wasn't very inspired, fun or epic at all.

There were a lot of things that I loved to death about Prime 3, but even just in general I felt like the boss fights were not quite as inspired as the previous games. Prime 1 and 2's bosses were so varied in size and play-style. But in Prime 3, you're almost always just fighting similarly-sized bipedal creatures who, despite their unique appearances, tend to play out pretty similarly to one another. It's not that they're bad at all, because they're not, but they just aren't as varied as I'm used to.
Now, the final boss was one of the few that DIDN'T follow that pattern... but although it was interesting, it didn't really have the kind of scope worthy of a game-ender. They really didn't make much out of the potential Mother Brain connection... from a narrative perspective, the final boss was really just some computer that Dark Samus stole, and as such it didn't really feel 'important' enough to be the last thing you fight. Second to last boss, sure. But not the final boss... not without doing more to make it feel like the real core, the real 'brain' of the Phazon planet itself. (Although having it kind of merge with Dark Samus did help, maybe if they'd played that up more...)

I had greatly hoped that after scanning the prime husks that you would possibly fight multiple primes lead by Dark Samus. I was really disappointed that they did not include a little more after giving you that nifty tid bit, but all in all I cannot complain too much. Yes the aurora unit was somewhat lacking, I got the same distinct feel that Esrever talked about in that it was anti-climactic; by itself was pretty creepy and disturbing, a giant bio-mechanical brain linked to the planet phaze, however after all the neat stuff from the previous games it just did not seem quite worthy. It would have taken a monumental whatthefugginhellisthatshitohlorditmustbetheshrike!? final boss to to to top all the other stuff leading up to this moment, and the aurora unit just barely cut it. In a way though it is inevitable that the end of something such as a trilogy like prime will somewhat disappoint, it just gets to a point where the people making it go "how on earth can we top everything else?" and the expectations of the fans are so ungodly high that it becomes a nearly impossible feat.
I will say that the moment where Dark Samus first copies herself in the duel was pretty badass, it almost made up for the fact that she just disappeared at the very end in a somewhat anti-climactic way.(they should have waited and used the echoes staggering moment for the end of corruption) But all in all it was a rock solid way of ending the trilogy.
