my elite, which I finnally just got ( it cost me like 4 pay checks even with the discount I got at the video game store I work part time at) I have had no problems with it. It's really quiet and doesn not get super hot but still I only had it for a week so it's hard to tell how long it will last. I still bought the extra warranty of course.

But one thing I do know is that Condemned: Criminal Origins is awesome.

I have never seen an Elite for sale anywhere. I remember hearing that only the first few hundred thousand were supposed to be black, is that true?

I have never heard that. AFAIK, all Elites will be black.

Have you tried saving things to MS/SD/CF, GG?

I hate the fact that I have to buy an expensive MS Memory Card if I want to backup my 360 stuff...

That doesn't sound like much compared to the 87.5 hours of work you had to put in for your PS3.

While we're on the 360, has anyone tried the Blue Dragon demo, or played the japanese version? This is probably the game that'll decide if my 360 stays or goes, and the bad rep it's earned for being insultingly easy is scaring me away. I'm pretty sure Sakaguchi said they'd include the hard mode download in the US release, but now i'm hearing they went back on that.

I edit my damn posts too much >_>

I am pretty sure you can use any USB keychain to save stuff to your 360. I heard that somewhere, never tried it though. As far as the 360 failures go, a lot of consoles freeze with certain games. Mine for instance always froze with Perfect Dark Zero, but the same disc ran fine on a friends. The disc scratching thing has become a big problem, I think the state of California is suing them for 5 million dollars or some crap. From what I understand the main cause of the red ring is that the Xbox gets so hot it actually kinda fucks up some solder on the mobo, but that might not be the only reason. I've heard reports of wrapping your Xbox in a towel to let it overheat can actually fix the red ring problem. The guys at 1upyours fixed an Xbox that way.

My Xbox has had pretty minimal problems though. I think the DVD drive kinda started to crap out which is why I sent it in, but part of that was me having to put it stowaway in an airplane rather than carry it on cause of the damn London terrorist attempt. Happened like 4 days prior to my flight. The drive never worked the same after that, sometimes it wouldn't eject unless I pushed it up before I pressed the button and stuff. It's worked great since the fix, except the other day it froze twice while I was just sitting in the dashboard having a private chat. That's a little unnerving.

Concerning HDTV's, are older console compatible with them? I am thinking of purchasing one, but only if my older consoles (such as my Genesis) would work.

I got component cables for my PS2 and used it with my 50 inch DLP and it looks great. I was amazed how good the original Devil May Cry looked. I have a feeling a Genesis game would look like complete balls, but it would still work. They all have coaxial ins.

Hmm... I just got an LCD 42" HDTV screen. What can I do with my PS2?

I did, very briefly. Not enough to pass any kind of judgment, but I was pleased with what little I played. The characters and environments have a sort of toy playset look that I've heard people complain about, but I really dig it.

The dub is the worst I've heard in some time. I understand the Asian version of the game includes both Japanese and English language options, so I'm assuming (hoping) the US version will too.

I'm looking forward to it.

I tried it for a while, but there were so many freakin' battles that, half an hour into the alloted hour, I had barely moved three or four rooms. The good news is that they're not random, and can be avoided if you have to, but avoiding them proved to be a pain. Plus the healing items only seemed to heal a tiny percentage of your overall health...

I wound up eventually getting to a bunch of monsters who, inexplicably, kept on getting turns added in before MY turns. The game's turn-based combat's kind of like Mega Man X Command Mission, in that you can see exactly whose move is when; ergo, I was noticing that every time one of these monsters made a move, their next move immediately popped up before my first one. Seeing as that kept happening perpetually, I essentially never got to input a single command, but rather got to watch the monsters mercilessly slaughter my team. Fun.

Now, that was the second option of the two... I haven't tried the first yet. Perhaps it's better?

I downloaded it, but haven't tried it yet. I've never been much for turn based combat. However after watching an Eternal Sonata video, I want to play that just to look at it. It's probably the prettiest game I've ever seen, as far as cel shading goes anyway.

Btw, Opa, I bought the GameStop branded component cables that work with the PS2 and Xbox for like 15 bucks and they work fine. They probably arent as nice as the official Sony branded ones, but those are a bitch to find and are 10 bucks more. Live I said though, Devil May Cry 1, the old as hell game looked pretty damn good in widescreen progressive scan. I'm amazed it even supported widescreen though, do all PS2 games? I just turned the option on in the dashboard, but all I've tried is DMC and I am not going to rule out the possiblity of it being stretched, I didn't play it that long.

This is strange, I don't get the widescreen option anywhere... I'll ask you guys, which button do you use to jump? At least in the version I've got of DMC, it forces me to jump with triangle, shoot with both square and X, and slash with circle; it's a stupid configuration and it's getting on my nerves.

I have the official component cables, pity that I use them on a non-widescreen, non-progressive scan piece of 21" WEGA shit (well, at least it has a 16:9 option which is only half useful with Resident Evil 4), and yes, both the original Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid 2 look damn great. And, after using it to play SEGA Genesis Collection (and even Panzer Dragoon and Dynamite Deka) I can assure they look like poop, I can't even imagine how Genesis games would look like in a HD set.
Hey Flash, give Lost Odyssey a chance too, looks like it'll rock!

Not so:

You can find instructions on line on how to make an A/V cable for the genesis, and I have heard rumor that you can even make component cables for it.

You mean the Genesis didn't already HAVE composite cables? Weird; I thought even the lowly NES had those.

The model 1 has the same AV out, that cable should work on it too? If not, mine is hooked up with a string of AV cables that came with my 32x. The 32x is compatible with both models so I assume the cables are the same.

You think? I thought that one looked pretty froofy. There's a demo in some Xbox magazine, I wonder how it is?

Both Genesis models have A/V cables, obviously... lots of people had VCRs then remember. The model one cable is apparently the same as a Master System/Neogeo one so it only has one audio cable with it(as opposed to a white and yellow). Meaning it's mono. But you can get third party audio cables and use it in the headphone jack for stereo audio or connect PC speakers to it. And yes, you can make component or S-video for it if you really wanted to.

If you were really cool, you'd have a set up like this though. I'd assume.

From the description of the PS3, didn't it ever occur to you that all those strange ports and the huge size meant it was bloated with useless shite you will never use? They're just trying to make it an all purpose entertainment machine which is bullshite if you already have stuff for that. Using the new blu-ray format is one thing, but all that other stuff seems tacked on and pointless to most gamers. It's just inflating the price.

Maybe Sony will decide to put out an add-on called the 512X. It will last forever.
