I agree. There are a lot of "sonic fans" out there, but only, maybe half of them, are really fans of sonic (the character). The other half are shadow fanboys, amy fans *shiver*, rouge, I could go on. Tis a shame too, because the more playable characters you have in a game like this, sonic seems less super, because his abilities are being mimicked by other characters.

Why not--

Post by istavan_toth »

If Amy/Shadow/Etc. are that popular why not give them their own game?

Although I think Sonic name is the hook, some caracters can have their own crappy games to satisfy demand.

And Sonic can dissapear from the market scene for a couple of years, returning with a new, fantastic, greater adventure ever.

(just an idea)

I think Sonic Battle had one of the best stories in a Sonic game ever. The Sonic Adventure games stories could've been a lot better too if they just add more depth to them.

Because Amy and Shadow suck.

I'm so sick of people constantly saying "Since when has story mattered in a Sonic game", as if having a crap story is something to be proud of. Sure, the original games had virtually no story, but then those had the fresh gameplay to compensate for that flaw, so it didn't matter.

A game with shoddy gameplay can survive if it's got a good story. But there's no hope for a game with shoddy gameplay and no story. So Sonic games live or die on gameplay alone, until the Adventure games remedied that with reasonably good stories. But then they go back to having miniscule story for Heroes, and it doesn't have really as great gameplay as it could've had - so, ouch.

Gimme back the story. If you don't like it, then you can always click past the cutscenes. (How the HELL do you get from a creepy mansion to a fleet in high orbit without anything happening between)

Awww. =( I like Amy though I'm sort of 'eh' with Shadow. Though I don't think none of the supporting characters--not even someone like Knuckles could carry there own in a spin-off game nowadays since the Sonic series is past that "fad" stage in his life in which any of the characters could get somewhat decent sales of a game since they are Sonic characters.

I also believe that the 'Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles only' as playable characters that was esablished in S3&K is permenantly dead. Though, their bastardized gameplay lives on through Sonic Heroes. =/ If Sonic Team want to bring out the largest demo as possible then why don't the expand(...or would it be shrink?) their standard playable cast to the Sonic Advance cast--Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Cream in future 3D games to come? At least those five have distinct gameplay styles in comparision to the rest of the living Sonic cast.

I had a story idea that's been brewing in my head for a while though some would consider it to be a bit...too dark and somewhat controversial for a Sonic storyline.

Basically, it starts in that Sonic and Tails returns to South Island to find that the "-icky" animal friends are all on the ground, glossy-eyed(like they are staring into space), and murmuring incoherently--like they are in a strange coma. It turns out that someone actually stolen their souls and imprisioned them in robots(which are nanomachine colonies) on the island to be used as a pureform of energy. Could it be Eggman? Sonic & Tails investigate.

Meanwhile, Knuckles comes back to Angel Island after exploring the wonders Station Square only to find out that the Master Emerald is stolen. Now, this is to point out all the absurd times when Knuckles was a playable character and wasn't tied to the Master Emerald(i.e. Sonic Advance 1&2, Sonic Heroes). I mean, I always wondered why the heck wasn't he guarding the M.E. because with the way the Sonic world works, it can be easily stolen. Plus it will give the M.E. an important part of the storyline without it having to be shattered--again.

After a brief nervous breakdown of having failed his ancestors for personal pleasure due to hanging around with Sonic & Co.(who seemed to slightly affected his personality even though he is still mainly a loner) he seem to notice a pair of footprints and a small piece of a nanomachine colony. Machine? Maybe it's Eggman. Or it couldn't be his new sparring partner? Knuckles goes off to investigate...

Somewhere around the Mystic Ruins, Amy Rose, after having a picnic with Cream's family is napping under a tree dreaming about chasing Sonic playfully through the woods. Her dreams are not pleasant for long as everything goes dark, Sonic mysteriously disappears, and a strange, tall, female anthromorphic dragonfly dressed in black who we will call "The Black Fairy" appears. "The Black Fairy" challenges her 'to come get her if she wants to see her rabbit and Chao friends ever again'. Also she is not to ask her "boyfriend" and the others for help or they will be offed also.

Amy suddenly wakes up after that horrible vision to Cream's screams and runs to the source of the sound. Cream is being taken away by a swarm of nanomachines and Amy successfully yanks her from them in the nick of time and smashes the colony with her hammer. Cream is crying since her mother, Chocola, and even Cheese is taken away. So Amy who have to protect the unfortunate helpless Cream(who is controlled by a CPU and/or 2P) is off to find The Black Fairy...

Anyway, that's the basic intro.

There would be two modes--Beginner(since Sonic Team thinks we need a beginner mode) and Normal. Beginner features Cream & Cheese playable through five levels and a boss(maybe one from Sonic's game). At the end, we find out that Cream and amazingly Cheese has been dreaming the whole adventure all this time. Not original, but a bit more plausable than it would be in the main story.

Normal mode features Sonic, Knux, Tails, and Amy as playbale characters and like S3&K, all characters are available at the start of the game and you can even just beat the game and get all the Chaos Emeralds as Sonic only to see the true ending. No need to conplete all four character games and get the emeralds to see the true ending like in SH, but it does flesh out the whole main story a little and ties is all together.

Other story features includes:

~~Everyone else is a NPC in a well-developed and interactive Adventure Field(ask big smile about his Adventure Field idea)

~~We finally know what the deal is with Shadow bringing that saga to a full close

~~Great dialouge and character development from every playable character except for Sonic who must be simplistic as possible for some reason despite being blessed or cursed depending on your perspective with the 'gift of gab'.

~~Excellent English dubbing meaning Sega must hire Animaze actors and voice directors for everyone except Sonic and Eggman. I can't stress this enough.

~~S&T starting together with one of them being controlled by the CPU or 2P and then being seperated in the middle of their respective games.

~~Teensy bit of angst(the good kind and not hardly as much as Shadow's) in Knuckles' story just to please the people who like teh angst.

~~Tails, Knux, Amy gets 7 levels with 2 acts. Sonic gets 12 levels with 2 acts!

~~In Sonic's and part of Tails' games you will fight Eggman. Tails', Knuckles', and Amy's final bosses will probably be one of Eggman's all powerful and nasty insect-modeled, multi-soul carrying guardians. Tails=moth, Knux=scarab, Amy=dragonfly. Sonic will probably have fight one also--something fast like a mantis or cockroach. And all of those robots will stay bad to the very end with not turning over a new leaf crap. Eggman will still be the final boss in Sonic's game.

~~There must be one level in Sonic's game that is a really surreal dream sequence and he has to complete it to wake up.

~~There must also be a boss fight in which you have to race against the real, unaltered SH-version of Metal Sonic. Sure, it maybe copying the race in Sonic CD, but dangit, I deserve a good 3D Sonic game in which Metal Sonic is relevant to the plot

~~Fang will be in Special Stages and he will stay bad also.

~~Not only when you collect all 7 emeralds, Super Sonic will become playable in all of his levels, but he will actually have some relevance to the story beyond "change into this ultimate form for the final fight".

~~Human souls will actually be trapped in robots too--it will first start with the children then to the adults! =D

~~Infact at one point in time near the end of the game, I would like to see all of the NPCs on the Adventure Field(s) all in comas with only the sound of wind blowing on the field to make it extra disturbing.

~~And have Tails', Knuckles', and Amy's souls get taken away near the end of Sonic's game.

~~Eggman might actually be threatning again. He can discover that Sonic soul is the most powerful one in the world because of him constantly turning into Super Sonic with no ill effects. He attempts to use both the M.E. and the Chaos Emeralds powers through nano-technology and absorbed souls collected around the world which twists his heart because he needs Sonic's soul to become a god. However, if that is too dark for Eggman(and it is probably is nowadays) then he will have to play second villian(yet again) to the main baddie who assisted Eggman, used him as a pawn, and will eventually betray Eggman leaving him in a comatose state.

~~In the case of the latter effect, Sonic would have to fight the final boss in his regular form as the final boss would start out easy then evolve to the next form using one Chaos Emerald at a time, changing its mode of attack and weakness each time. At the bosses final form, Sonic would change into Super Sonic through some miracle and eventually defeating it at a cost of being too weak to move. The souls of everyone would be released including his friends in which their souls would heal Sonic. They will lead him out of the battleground and into a playable level in which you would have to escape the area to safety before time runs out.

~~Then there is some big, bright, tearful, happy ending in which everyone is okay and everything is back to normal.

~~Oh and er...there is some humorous points in the story. Heh. And it's supposed to start out a bit light-hearted and then get heavy in plot transistion as seen in the first Grandia game. Aheh heh.

Looking back at this, it does seem like a plot too complex and morbid for a Sonic game. But hey, since more and more people seem to acknowledge video games as interactive movies and since they seem to eat this stuff up this doesn't seem that bad at all.

Of course, gameplay will also be emphasized most of all but this topic is about the next Sonic story.

Though, I'll give you a hint. The gameplay should be in a 3D playing field and modeled after S3&K and not neccesarily after Adventure.

That's some impressive typing if nothing else. Did you just make that up?

And I think the gameplay should be 3D rendered, but 2D in execution. (like classical sonic games)

It was just swirling in my mind for months and this thread was my opportunity to share my ideas. =)

Though that was the condensed version as I was too lazy/tired to elaborate on certain other points.

Ideally, I would like a great Sonic game with both an excellent storyline and gameplay--not one or the other. You know, just to raise the bar so you and the new main deomgraphic of the Sonic series can look back 10 years from now and say, "Damn! Now that was a damn good Sonic game! I feel like playing it again and again!"

Oh yeah, and I would have Sonic the character be cool again--meaning no lame-ass, cringe-worthy dialouge such as "That's because we are all Sonic Heroes!" some be coming from his mouth ever again. The gameplay would also be tweeked in that Sonic would not be overshadowed by "Sonic+" a.k.a. the rest of the cast.

EDIT: I still believe that it is possible to make a Sonic game fully work in 3D and have excellent level design with multiple and character-specific paths, but it would probably take a heck of a long time and hard work to pull it off.

Words can not describe your story Nganbius, but I'll try: GENIUS...PURE UN-ADUTERATED GENIUS  I just hope my story will be just as good as yours.

My story will finally tie up all the loose ends of the genesis games and will reveal the origins of both Sonic and Eggman. It begins with Metal Sonic being captured by G.U.N but coincedently, on the same day a rogue government faction starts a coup de tat on the orginazation. The leader, Alpha, frees Metal Sonic, along with Nack, the rebuilt corpse of E-101 Beta Mk II, and some mind-controled guest stars, to begin a terrorist campaign against all of Mobius/Earth/Sonic Land and to find Sonic and Eggman. Soon, entire armies are conquering many lands and war is declared. Metal reaches him first...only to find him dead and...and a robot. Yeah, Eggman was a robot the whole time...so now everyone is asking the same question: Who is the real Eggman...or was there ever an Eggman at all? At the same time, Shadow (now a vigilante in Station Square) uncovers some clues regarding a cyber-genetic project from Eggman starting in the 80's...including experimentation and a tragic explosion... and sightings of a small hedgehog boy. Hmmm...

Gameplay will vary with each person but I'll promise this: No treasure hunting, no gay ass team work, no stupid dialouge, fewer rails, less Big and an end to the Shadow arc (just not the end of Shadow). I'll try to incorporate Sonic Advance stuff in the game, but only those that'll work. Most guys get to work with partners a la Sadv3 but others go solo. The final will end on Angel Island. All items will return along with Flame and Bubble Shields. The Blast Attack will only be available on bosses. Bosses include Metal Sonic (x3), E-101 Beta Mk II, Nack the Weasel (x2), E-123 Omega, Mighty The Armidillo, Bean The Duck, E-121 Phi and Alpha. Bosses have 2 stages, one is a mech armor/army and then the boss itself.

Sonic - traditional gameplay; switches between Tails (flying, projectile) and Knuckles (fighting, gliding) as partners. While running around and showing off some new moves (wall running, better triangle jump, dodging and dash attacks), he's ambushed by the terrorist who wants him for some reason. He goes after Alpha for kicks first, but gets involved in a plot to reveal the meaning of his existance...and then he fights Eggman for the last time against a robot of Unicron preportions. 10 levels, 2 acts each. Faces Super Metal Sonic in final, faces Alpha w/ 7 chaos, faces FINAL EGG with 7 chaos and all missions completed; 7 chaos gets you Super Sonic for all levels but can only be used once per act. Moves include: Battle Combo, Homing Attack, Spin Dash, Tatumaki (Sonic Whirlwind), Wall Run, Triangle Jump, Dodge (lag time after 5 dodges), Lightspeed Dash, Overdrive (Boss), Hi no Tama dash (flaming), Renzoku Bound (bubble), Sliding Combo (Knux), Air Dodge (Tails).

Knuckles - traditional with beat-em up elements, a litle harder than the rest; switches between Sonic (dash attacks, air attack) and Tails (air assist, bombs). Knuckles was bum rushed by Alpha's forces and while putting up a good fight, he gets his ass kicked out of the island. Sonic finds him and joins him in his quest to get back to Angel Island. Knux also has doubts about his job as guardian and wonders about his destiny. During this, Tikal and Chaos is summoned by a higher power and now prepares judgement for Angel Island after all the shit that happened in the past, which will change the destiny of AI and Knux...forever. 7 levels, 2 acts each. Faces Chaos in sub-final, then The spirit of the ME in final. Moves: Dunk Combos, Spin Dash, Deep Impact, Glide, Climb, Dig, Throw, Dash Combos + Dragon Spiral (Sonic), Upper Combos + Spiral Upper (Tails), Drill Claw (Flaming), Headbutt (Bubble), Overdrive (Boss), Counter (when attacked). When Knux runs at full speed, he gets a flaming aura.

Tails - exploration and weapon based action; switches between Sonic (sheild removal, air dash) and Knux (air attack, dash attack). Tails follow Sonic when he goes after Alpha. As they progress , Tails gets strange e-mails revealing bits of Eggman's origin...and some of Sonic's!! His tale ends with a fight with Sonic...and a last mech fight with Eggman. Fights Evil Sonic in final, and Eggman w/ 7 chaos. 7 chaos allows Tails to summon M.S. Cyclone for a limited time. Moves include: Shippo Bomb combo, Spin Dash, Triple Bomb, Air Bomb, Flying, Machete (flaming), Glide Fist (bubble), Overdrive (Boss), Bomb Swtich.

Amy - exploration action; switches between Cream (Cheese, flying) and Big (grappling, attack) but most levels she's on her own. Amy is getting tired of chasing Sonic and tries to get a normal life...but she can't because it's too late. Now's she's pissed at him and wants to finally know: Does Sonic luv her or not? Cream goes with her because Cheese gets wierd readings from other Chaos and Big goes because Froggy is looking for a girlfriend. She also fight Evil Sonic and has a final and twisted confrontation with Metal that reveals Amy's side of the Sonic CD story. 5 levels, 2 acts. Fights Metal Sonic as sub-final, Evil Sonic in final. Moves include: Piko-Piko Hammer, Homing Attack, Senshi no Hane, hanging, sneaking, Headbutt, Storming Hearts, Triangle Jump, Hammer Jump, Hi no Tama dash (flaming), Hammer Bound (bubble), Flower Festival (Boss), Kuchuu Senshi no Hane (Cream), Long Hammer (Big).

Cream and Cheese (only in Tutorial) - shooting action; Gmel is her partner (shield, air assist). All human and furries are in hiding thanks to the horrible actions of Alpha and his army. Cream and Cheese wants to help Amy but her mom and Gmel won't let her. So she sneaks out to assists Amy however she can. 4 levels, 1 act each. Her final boss is an endurance match against Heavy Units. She is the witness to the true plan of Alpha. Moves include: Cheese, Flying, Spin Dash, Cheese Spiral, Chao Reunion (Boss), Cheese Blast (flaming), Cheese Spin (bubble).

that's it for now...I'll tell you the rest later. Bye-Bye for now.

I don't think Sonic should go back to entirely 2-D. However, I'd be perfectly fine if they wanted to ape Crash Bandicoot and do a semi-3D platformer. One in which there are a couple of branching paths, but essentially you're on one path for most of the game, with the ability to dodge things and obstacles by moving to the right or left.

That would be shit. The recent games are already too linear as is.
