For the record, a $20 million budget in 2000's dollars works out to be about $23 million in 2006's dollars. The inflation rate might be more for Japan, too, so Yakuza might not have been as pricy as Shenmue to develop.

That it's drawing comparisons to Shenmue makes me interested in it, though.

The difference in price might actually be more than that since I am pretty sure Shenmue was in development way before 2000. I am only basing this off disc 4 of Shenmue 2 though where they had footage of the game originally planned for the Saturn.

Shenmue was released in 2000 in the US. So yeah, I think it was probably in development before that.

Yu Suzuki said he got the idea when he was researching for Virtua Fighter. So that was sometime around 1993, about 6 or 7 years before its release. Who knows when it went into any kind of official development and started getting paid for.

SHOTTEH FOCK OP!

Post by Ngangbius »

Okay...so Sega of America probably spent millions of mollah to get talent such as Mark Hamill, Michael Rosenbaum, Michael Madsen, Eliza Dushku, and Rachel Leigh Cook to voice the characters for the English dub of this high profile game.

And yet, we get this.

What the hell, Sega!? Couldn't you also spend millions on a decent voice director also? God, the game looks like it will be awesome to play, but the voice acting reeks. I can picture myself cringing or laughing at scenes that were supposed to be serious or badass in the original. Heck, I laughed at the last scene of the trailer. XD

"STEPDA FOCK OP!"

I seriously hope that this trailer is really a work in progress for the voice acting and that the final product will be much better than this.

Wouldn't it have made more sense just to use subtitles seeing as the game's set in Japan? Or, at the very least get some Japanese voice actors. Still, voice acting in games is generally pretty weak anyway yet that's a pretty good cast. Still, having a big name cast isn't exactly a guarantee of good voice acting. I don't know if anyone else has played the Spider-Man 2 game but Kirsten Dunst somehow managed to sound like a very bad sound-alike of herself. I don't know how she managed to achieve that!

Acting on a set and acting in front of a microphone aren't the same.

Not that she was working with spectacular material in the game anyway.

I'm incapable of adequately viewing video. Is Hamill in particular really that bad?

Are any of those guys really that big at all anymore? When was the last time Rachel Leigh Cooke did anything at all? She was on Robot Chicken, and did the voice of Tifa, before that it was a teen movie like 10 years ago or something. Michael Madsen isn't that big, Hamill isn't anymore either.

Hamill is a respected voice actor with a very diverse career. One of his more notable roles was the Joker in the Dini/Timm DCAU.

Mark Hamill's performance as the Joker was incredible, probably the best voice acting work I've come across.

Him not doing The Joker in The Batman makes it all the more painful to swallow (although the guy who does him in that series ain't too bad, honestly).

It's the Joker as a African-American, gigantic, half gorilla/half clown creature.

That series is fucked up in the worst ways.

Michael Madsen will chop your fucking ear off and throw gasoline at you to the strangely Beatles-esque sound of Stealers' Wheel, and then struggle to raise his son who empathizes with a large whale.
