Re: Attention New Members
Hello, I'm P.P.A. from TSC. I'm German, rather skilled at time attacking some Sonic games (CD, R, and Chaos in particular) and, uh, seeing as The GHZ is pretty awesome I thought it might be a good thing to also register at the forums.
Short bio: My first game (ever) was Sonic 1 (when I was 3 or 4), though I must admit that it was SA2B (my second Sonic game D:) that sparked my interest in the series again. But while I started out as your usual pathetic newfag Sonic fanboy, I soon began to value the old Sonic games (except Sonic 2, which I still consider to be overrated) in contrast to the continuously dropping quality of the newer 3D games ever since SA2. (Although I admit I did like Sonic 06. Now if they just actually completed it instead of releasing it in a unfinished beta-like stage... :/) I ripened, began to buy all the old SEGA consoles I had missed and developed my own, un-biased view on the games. And eventually ended up as the embittered and critical gamer without life I now am.
Favourite Sonic games are in order: Sonic CD (MCD version), Sonic 1, SA2B, Sonic R (Gems/PC, don't have the Saturn version yet) and Sonic Chaos ( the Master System version - because you can actually see what's around you).
So yeah, hello.
You can use ring smilies here? Awesome.

Nobody does, but you can, which is what's really important.

Mind if I ask what it is you disliked about Sonic 2, P.P.A.?

Re: Attention New Members
Not at all. I disliked a couple of things: The fact that there are now only 2 Acts per Zone, the cartoony style of the graphics (as opposed to S1/SCD's rather surreal/awesome one), the simply annoying and often unfitting music, the spindash and somewhat strange speedcap and a couple of flaws in level design (but I admit the stages were a bit more fun than S3K's). Casino Night Zone is total win though.Protodude wrote:Mind if I ask what it is you disliked about Sonic 2, P.P.A.?

It's almost refreshing to hear someone not just accept that the canon Genesis games are infallible works of God. I don't agree with you, but you don't give a shit, and I like that.

I think I get what he means; the first Sonic game looked to be more in the line of, say, Super Mario Bros. It was quite surreal, the different zones seemed only vaguely related to actual real-life places, it never turned the science-fiction switch on up until Scrap Brain, and even then it just looked like a sinister polluted city and the interior of a gigantic clockwork-like device for acts 1 and 2 respectively, interestingly "other-worldly". CD's just too focused in the random crap school of design, but the fact that it uses some Sonic 1 designs and motifs gives it extra points.
Though it's disconcertingly uncommon to see someone who liked Sonic Adventure 2 so much say that he liked this stuff in the original game and CD, therefore its absence in 2 being detrimental, it's indeed a pretty good observation. But I still like Sonic 2's music.
Welcome aboard, have a nice trip!

It's promising to see some new members joining up and making intelligent posts. Are many of the old crew here though? It seems quieter than it used to be.

Re: Attention New Members
Hi, it's me.
I don't think anyone remembers me, but that's alright.
Back in those days, I was enthusiastic enough to have my own Sonic website, which later evolved into the official German branch of the GHZ (thanks GG!). After the release of Sonic Adventure 2, I read the signs of time and decided to leave the fandom, thus sparing me from Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and that next-gen Sonic.
Come to think of it, I should have left after Sonic Adventure, but such things are easy to say in hindsight.
Well, I had my Sonic site evolve into an ad-free (!) hentai site, specializing in Soul Calibur doujinshi. When I enrolled in University and free time suddenly became a much sought-after commodity, I let the Hentai Tetsugaku die, too.
Four torches were lit,
Four bells tolled,
life continued for 1000 years,
and now I just wanted to check on what you folks have been up to.

Yes, but we're trying very hard to get back to the old color scheme/layout even as we speak.
Handy chart:
"we're" = GG!/Segaholic
"trying" = not trying
"even as we speak" = never gonna happen

I seem to recall that you had hentai on your site before it stopped being the official German version of the GHZ? I think that was one of the reasons we liked it.

Re: Attention New Members
Quite so.
I had a shrine for Kasumi and Ayane, back then, when DOA still was a fighting game and not a dating sim. -_-
Didn't GG! have a shrine for Fighting Vipers' Candy?
What ever happened to it?

GHZ had a German branch once? Cool, if it was still alive I could help. Too bad I'm... 6 years too late?

Re: Attention New Members
The worst thing Sonic fans ever did was create a "fandom". Everyone's always going on about it, or about leaving it at any rate. "OMG I'M LEAVING THE FANDOM BYE GUYS" What, so you're not going to play any more Sonic games? Good idea, they're mostly shit! Can't we all just leave it at that?
I mean, it's not like there's fansites for the shitty Mario Bros cartoon, or Crash Bandicoot fanfiction clusters (or whatever they call them), or, fucking, Spyro the Dragon fangame "projects". Why does Sonic attract slavering, misguided fanboys like flies to shit?
Er, and great to see you Sim. I remember you, if that counts for anything. I'm pretty much the coolest guy here, so.

Perhaps that speaks about Sonic's character uniqueness.
He's right, Sim. You should better write it down your CV.j-man wrote:Er, and great to see you Sim. I remember you, if that counts for anything. I'm pretty much the coolest guy here, so.

Oh, what the hell, might as well register, considering I've been lurking round for years.
Uh... I'm SupremeS, obviously, and you can feel free to consider that an awful and egotistical name. Gets worse when the "S" is meant to stand for "Sonic" as well, but this way you get to place whatever word you want there for easy laughs! Hooray!
As for a bio... Well, I suppose the main reason I "Got into" Sonic was because it was the first game I remember ever playing, back when I was tiny and young. I sort of have this memory of an old TV showing Sonic spinning round loops and me thinking it was awesome, and it went from there. Cue Sonic 2, Sonic 3, missing a bunch of them because I never bought a Dreamcast or anything like that, and me now frantically trying to play those games I have not and boring people to death when they mention Sonic in any context. Ever.
I'll probably be sticking round. Please don't kill me. Oh, and I'm partial to the ChuChu smilie myself.

Sorry, but I've already penetrated your defenses. It's too late.
Anyway, I'm K2J. On some other sites, I'm known as K2JMan, but I figured that would sound too similar to certain member on this forum. I've lurked long, waiting for the day you finally decided to allow new members. It's nice to have a forum where there's a certain bar of intelligence to pass, but isn't as requiring of technical knowledge as, say, CulT. That being said, I joined the Sonic game fandom from Nintendo's side, so I have a degree of separation from all you Sega long-timers. Regardless, I'll try my best to figure out all your references. This is the internet, after all.
