I've never heard of McD's making you purchase something else so that you can buy a toy.

I'm "lucky" enough to have two McDonald's within 5 minutes of my house (in the same shopping center, no less.) So even laziness shan't stop me from collecting them.

Yeah, well usually each McDonalds only gets two or three different types of toys. At least that's the experience I had with the last Sonic promotion.

Indeed. That's the experience I've had in collecting McDonald's toys, too. Each MD gets a random selection of the toys, and never all of them.

It didn't use to be the way. It only happened fairly recently. Before, all of the toys would pass through distribution in one resteraunt.

Now, it's totally random.

Same here. I never saw the Tails' Skypatrol game at the McD's around here except for the one in the display case.

I was able to get all the toys from the last promotion at the same location, but it was pretty close. I think when I finally got Tails, it was the last or second to last week of the promotion. They'd run out of the boxes and were putting them in generic Happy Meal bags...

I only got Shadow. I haven't played it. Figure'd when I got it I would just sell it on eBay to some spazz.

It's 700 miles away. As much as I'm dying to grind in an LCD shit-fest, I am unable to.

That's actually what I did with the last set. But with these new ones, that won't be possible. Damned opaque bags!

Six Happy Meals later, I've got 2 Sonics and 4 Knuckles, one of which doesn't work.

Godammit.

I feel your pain. We're all geeks. We've all been trapped in fast-food collectable hell at one time or another.

I think the best toys at McDonalds were those Dinosaurs that turned into McDonalds food. There was a Pteredactyl that turned into a box of hot cakes and a bunch of others though that's the only one that comes to mind. Pretty cool I say.

I remember those, they were awesome. My dad used to be a McDonald's collector, he's got that set somewhere.

They had food that turned into dinosaurs, and food that turned into robots.

It was awesome. I would get an army of robot happy meals and an army of dinosaur happy meals together. Then I would pit nature against technology. Metal against flesh. Past against future. It was the ultimate showdown of metamorphic fast food.

I seem to remember, as a child, having a little McDonald's toy that was, like, a soft drink container that turned into a robot. And another one that was some chips that did the same. Are those what you're talking about? Because they were seriously cool.

Indeed. Apparently, they were called "Changables" and were McDonald's attempt to cash in on the Transformers craze without actually having to license the Transformers characters.

I've found the listing for the dinosaurs:

Happy Meal-O-Don, Quarter Pounder with Cheese-O-Saur, McNugets-ODactyl, Fry-Ceratops, Big Mac-O-Saurus, Tri-Shake-Atop, McDino Cone, Bronto Cheeseburger.

The Tri-Shake-Atops ruled over all the others. The McDino Cone was his lieutenant.

The Robot changables were:
Robocakes, Gallacta Burger, Fry Force, Krypto Cup (Milkshake), Macro Mac, C-2 Cheeseburger, and Frybot.

The fry guy was the best, because his arms could move. God, how I loved Frybot.

Yeah, Frybot owned it up.

Anyway, just got back from McDonalds, and I bought the only two they were selling which was Amy & Rouge's game as well as Sonic's.

Hella sweet, I had those Changables guys too. I made them kick each others' arses and then I probably melted them when I got obsessed with burning stuff like every other 14-year-old boy.

It's always reassuring being among fellow geeks, we can reminisce together.

Yeah, I think I killed some brain cells melting action figures with frying pans and shit. That crap smells real bad, so we started holding our breath while doing it then throwing the thing outside so we wouldn't breathe in the fumes... good times.

And back when I actually cared to buy Happy Meal toys, back in middle school, You didn't have to buy a Happy Meal to get the toy and you could ask them which toy they had so you didn't end up with 2 Sonics and 4 Knuckles. I haven't tried to get the complete set of anything since the Mini Beanie Babies things way back when. Which I sold for a 100 dollars to some lady whose basement burned down. Not too shabby deal for either of us cause her insurance company paid me.

Speaking of McDonald's, I'm really tired of their stupid ad campaign.

Ba-da-ba-ba-ba... I'm fuckin' hating it.
