Ok, note that there are very few non-mute RPG characters that I actually like such as Vyse and Justin(Lloyd is old to have that stupid sense of wonder, but what do I know I never been a boy). But most of them are quite forgettable(even though the writers tries to make them interesting by giving them dialogue) or annoying.
I really like the way your main character dialgue was set-up in Suikoden I & II. Another character will ask question, request, or just generally make a comment to your character and your main character could respond different dialouge choices that went beyond a "yes" or a "no". Though it would have been better if they would have expand on it and you can shape your own character's personality.

That's easy. Effort.Ngangbius wrote:Then how do you explain Mother 2/Earthbound?And, I think that the "silent protagonist" is generally a mask for a "poor writer". Yes, that applies to Golden Sun as well.
Think of it this way: In Mother 2/Earthbound, you pick up the phone and call your mom. She says "...Don't say a word. I know just what's on your mind." The game has setup so that the main character never really has to talk. It's written in such a way that you don't need other characters to talk for you, but you still have great characters despite that.
Then, look at Golden Sun. The writer noticably didn't spend as much time figuring out how to make the main character never need to talk, so he just made the other characters talk for him. Which means that other characters are going to have to repeat what the "silent hero" supposedly said so that the player isn't left in the dark, which just takes bloody forever and is anoying. "Do you want the fresh fish or the salmon moose? What's that? You want a cheese wheel? Alright, sure thing." That shit's anoying, and takes no effort whatsoever.

I've always wanted to play a game in which you could formulate your character's dialogue by typing responses or something similar and have the other character respond depending on what you wrote, like in real life. Of course, this was implemented in old text adventures, but it's too easy to figure out what the keywords are and anything outside of those words just gets an "I'm sorry, I don't understand," anyway. Still, I've played too many multiple choice games where the choice I want doesn't appear.Ngangbius wrote:I really like the way your main character dialgue was set-up in Suikoden I & II. Oh well. I'll just have to wait for the Holodeck to come about.

That would only have added to the awesome.Zeta wrote:Lloyd's VA was actually very good and a pretty season voice actor in animation. But - he's also the voice of Robin from Teen Titans.Yeah. And I didn't think his va was bad, either
So during cinemas I kept on expecting to see Raven and Starfire pop up.

However, in all probability, it would've turned out that they were angels, given that everyone and their damn grandma was sprouting a pair of wings in that game.plasticwingsband wrote:That would only have added to the awesome.Zeta wrote:Lloyd's VA was actually very good and a pretty season voice actor in animation. Ohhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.
So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.
Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you,
thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.
