So what's up with Bionic Commando? It's out now, isn't it? I thought it looked pretty nice if a bit rigid, but I'm one of those strange people who's always liked rigidididity in my action games.
Please inform.

Re: Top Secret
Ridgidness is just one of those things. There's sandbox games with loose controls and ragdoll physics. And on the other extreme there's the original Resident Evil and Tomb Raider where the mechanics are more limited. I like my action games somewhere in the middle.
And to answer you're question... I haven't played it.

Re: Top Secret
So I played multiplayer for this at this pay-as-you-play gaming store for my cousin's bachelor party. I played it for close to 3 hours, but it felt a lot shorter.
The game feels a lot less rigid than I'd expect. It was less rigid in its default controls than Halo 3, which we played before Bionic Commando, in particular aiming and moving were both a hair looser. And when you try to use your grapple-gun in the heat of battle, it makes things even looser. If you're running away because you have the very weak standard pistol and use the grapple beam you start swinging all over the place, unless you know what you're doing. It's better to run away in this situation if the player shooting at you is somewhat far away and can't keep up because they don't have anything to grab onto and move quickly across the map. If they're nearby you and have just as much to grapple onto though, they can chase you easily. This is just an example of how the grapple-beam plays a key role in the game.
The levels are fully designed in a way that work with the grapple-gun. They're pretty big, which is good because you're so quick when using the grapple-gun efficiently. Power-ups and weapons will be hanging in the middle of the air without anything near it and yet they're completely obtainable with the grapple-gun. However, the levels are so big though that there were times when I'd go a whole minute without seeing one of the 7 other players.
The weapons were just the standard run-of-the-mill shooter weapons though. You start off with a pistol, which is not only weak, but the bullets aren't as fast as bullets should be. You can see them fly to your target. So the game becomes something of a race to better weapons, which are pretty much necessary to kill others. I did get a couple kills with the pistol, but I think it was more out of luck than skill. It's a lot easier to just go for better weapons.
Overall, it's pretty fun but a little generic outside of the grapple-gun mechanics.

Re: Top Secret
Yeah, I played the multiplayer demo and was completely underwhelmed, but I'm one of those strange old mountain hermits who still views games as a soloist hobby. I do not like playing with other people and if I did, I don't imagine I'd have ever gotten into games in the first place.
Any thoughts on the single-player mode?

I don't have any thoughts whatsoever about Bionic Commando, but I wanted to say that gaming for me has gone in the completely opposite direction from GG!. I pretty much only play games for the multiplayer experience and I have a really hard time forcing myself to sit down and play through whole single-player games, unless I'm really interested in them. Uncharted 2 will probably be the only single-player game I actually finish this year.
