It's completely possible to get to all the springs with Sonic. I guess what Flash was going for is that most of the springs are way up in the air, so if you trip and fall down, you either need to backtrack a lot or you might just be unable to go back at all. Whereas with Tails or Knuckles you can usually fly/climb back to the now inacessible portion of the stage and try again.Ngangbius wrote:I can't speak on the issue with the Special Stages since I haven't really bothered that much with actively searching the springs with any of the characters. I just discovered one or two of them using Sonic and/or Tails. Maybe some else can counter your point or support it depending on if they acquired all the emeralds with Sonic or not. I have a feeling it is possible to attain all the emeralds as Sonic but it is just more of a challenge.

Er, I was talking about standard Sonic 3 without lock-on. Other than the co-op carrying and a few exclusive areas, Tails doesn't have a whole lot there he can have that Sonic can't, so it's almost like Advance - simple different experience for replay value. Is that so bad?Ngangbius wrote:As for your second point, Knuckles game in Sonic 3&K is much more complex than the stuff in Sonic Advance 1. There are multiple routes that take advantage of Knuckles power that Sonic and Tails can't access to, and in addition, the bosses have a different attack pattern than the latter two's.
Exactly, he can do it but it's tough and occasionally tedious.Neo wrote:It's completely possible to get to all the springs with Sonic. Nope.CM August wrote:Does Nintendo even acknowledge Miyu and Fay's existence? I've only seen them present in that one cancelled title.

You can't play as Knuckles in stand alone Sonic 3 except in the racing mode which doesn't relate to the point I was making. Tails was more or less "Sonic easy-mode" in Sonic which I could understand his inclusion even though his path was nearly similar to Sonic's. I would give Advance 1 props for creating a "hard-mode" character that was Amy(though it would have been better if she was able to roll into a ball as seen in Sonic 1 at the very least). I just wish that Advance 1 took it one step further where it started with Knuckles's game, and developed set paths for all of the characters instead of just sticking with their unique moves and calling it a game. I felt it was a waste of potential.FlashTHD wrote:Er, I was talking about standard Sonic 3 without lock-on. Making character-specific paths means that you're blocking the others from being able to access it. As the space in a level is limited, this would probably mean a loss of complexity for single characters and the game would end up a lot more limited.Ngangbius wrote:You can't play as Knuckles in stand alone Sonic 3 except in the racing mode which doesn't relate to the point I was making. Sonic levels are only 3x3 pixels.

So, how do you think a Wii "port" of Sonic rush adventure would play?, having the levels in 2D, the boss battles in 3D, would it work?

Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure's levels were actually designed with the DS's screens in mind, since they very frequently have multiple paths above and below eachother, so a direct "port", with only one screen, would probably feel a bit weird.

Sonic fans would probably start stacking TVs for it.
Like the 2D shooter fans who put their widescreen TVs on the side...

Re: A thought on Sonics future reputation.
Actually, we got a decent 2.5D Sonic game in Unleashed, and I really wouldn't mind if that concept were expanded for a full game. I'd like it to be modeled more after Sonic 3+K or CD rather than the Rush titles.
I liked playing Knuckles in the Sonic 3 levels, but I couldn't shake the feeling that his game (and especially his unique paths) was more like a series of obstacle courses, rather than the multiple-path adventure Sonic andTails had. That made his sections a lot less endearing in the long-run.P.P.A. wrote:Making character-specific paths means that you're blocking the others from being able to access it. PPA hates everything that is not pure Sonic CD banging-into-random-shite gameplay.
As for Unleashed 2D gameplay... err. Are you sure you played it? It is the worst 2D platformer experience I have ever had with Sonic and I own Sonic Genesis.

Re: A thought on Sonics future reputation.
(Edit limit... why is this even turned on?)
As for the Knuckles stuff, I thought it was fun and I enjoyed his game fully. Both Tails and Knuckles made the bosses more interesting, as they lacked the 'insta-shield' Sonic move that made them so easy. This way, you could play all the bosses for both stories in a harder mode. It really adds to the replayability for me.
Not really sure why people bitch about this stuff when all the Genesis games allowed you to totally ignore the other characters and still play the full 'story mode'.
For an applied example, I think Unleashed would have been more fun if they added an extra mode with Tails, entirely removing the Rush-metre thing, then toned the story down to the bare essentials. The levels would not even need to be changed, yet you would be able to experience them differently and not miss everything due to how excessively fast Sonic is. It would re-add the exploration aspect that is missing with the formula Rush added, yet still retain that at the same time.

We got a decent graphics engine, highly questionable about that game part.Wombatwarlord777 wrote:Actually, we got a decent 2.5D Sonic game in Unleashed

Re: A thought on Sonics future reputation.
They could use the Unleashed Engine for a new game, just skipping the Werehog parts, maybe have a few "Racer" levels that play like Sonic and the Secret Rings, and Boss battles like the ones in sonic Rush Adventure, minus the "Shooter" Super Sonic boss fight, that was awful. Make a Cameo of "Nights", have a pinball minigame, and to unlock playing as Shadow you have to beat the game at least once.
You don't need that many characters, Sonic plays most of the game, and you have Shadow as an unlockable, the rest of the characters just make cameos or and are NPCs in the story mode. it would also be easier to program and fix the bugs, since Shadow would just be a different "skin" of Sonic, having almost the same moves and that.
Sonic fans have Sonic
Shadow fans have Shadow
Tails and all the other characters fans have the cameos or the NPCs...
