What is the most popular Sonic-related fansite?
What is the most popular Sonic-related fansite?
There was a time when I would have known the answer to this question! But now... no idea whatsoever. What site are all the kids going to these days? What is the most popular hub of obsessive Sonic fandom?
I'm just curious!

I thought Sonic Stadium was the go-to place. Maybe it just seems that way because their news is crap (they ate that Richard Kuta "SONIC MOO-VEE!!!!!" bullshit that everyone else could smell a mile a way), but the site still manages to attract swarms of twelve-year-old fanboys who think anything before Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (they never say it without "Battle") is old and homosexual.
Hey, is Team Artail still around, peddling softcore furry porn and "original" characters?

'Fraid so.
Sonic CulT's still doing well without Pachuka, but i've been going to the forums less and less, in part because the cynicism there can be caked on doubly worse than here at times. Sonic Retro (the wiki) and Sonic 2 Beta have gone through with a sorta weird merger that stirred up a slight calamity at first. The Sonic Classic forums, if you're familiar with those, are miraculously still going after the last few years of BS they've reincarnated themselves through.
Besides all of that, there's Sonic Stadium, and well...beyond their indespensible FTP, let's never speak of that again. I think the webcomics end of things went through a crash within the last few years, but Fireball20xl is still very alive. We all know about SFGHQ...that's about what I care to pay attention to: the long-running stuff. Look this up for a general rundown of everything, a lot of it's outdated though.

You mean that there is another sonic fansite other than the GHZ?
A site that comes to mind but does not appear to be trafficked much is concept mobius, the character profiles and game pages are nice, neat and well done in my opinion, and the explanation of Sonic fandom is a good read. I would suggest a glance.

I have no idea why anyone would want to visit a Sonic fansite at all these days. The franchise, the character, is a dead and broken horse. The GHZ is still far and away the best resource when it comes to Sonic's golden years, but it escapes me as to why anyone would want to keep up-to-date on the latest hedgehog happenings here and now, not when they so frequently involve automatic weaponry.
I assumed the only reason any of us still hung around the forum here at all was because of the strange, inbred, self-loathing community we've built up over the years. I still feel a strange sense of obligation to check the forum every day, even though all it ever amounts to is arguments about Smash Bros.

I've kind of forgotten what I'd need a site for. The news board has all the news, we have a thread for fanart, GameFAQ's become the composite site for any and all game help, fan fiction never interested me much, and we're out of the age of MIDIs. Maybe I'm forgetting something relevant from back when the games were consistently good.
Well there you go. You can't fault a community for being what it is.Popcorn wrote:I have no idea why anyone would want to visit a Sonic fansite at all these days. Well, we're not all about Archie, of course, although you might find that we're similarly jaded about the state of affairs with the franchise (who isn't?). Perhaps less overtly so, but even still.Protodude wrote:Sonic HQ was my main blue-blur hub before I rediscovered and started frequenting The GHZ. I haven't been there in years though since stuff like SatAM and the Archie series don't interest me anymore.
But then, we have WB.
Well, okay, The GHZ has WB, too. But he doesn't post things like this here for whatever reason.

Before this site, Sonic HQ was my source. They still have neat stuff, particularly in the music department. Wasn't their some kind of mutual relationship with the GHZ and Sonic HQ? I remember they did an interview with Gibbon! years ago.

You can keep it, I don't want it anymore... wait, I never wanted it.
Thought this was pretty funny and kind of relevant. So I guess we fall under the Wikipedia Mavens and Fan Artists?

Heh, you know, i read that article on the various sub-groups of the Sonic fanbase for the first time just yesterday. And i gotta say, to me it seemed hauntingly accurate.Wooduck51 wrote: A site that comes to mind but does not appear to be trafficked much is concept mobius, the character profiles and game pages are nice, neat and well done in my opinion, and the explanation of Sonic fandom is a good read.
Here on GHZ, the type of fan Concept Mobius chose to call "SegaSonic extremist" somehow seems particulary interesting to highlight. Some examples of the description of this type include:
They'll have no problem reciting their views on how sucky Sonic has been lately, how lame all the new characters are, and of course the giant tornado of apparent suck that is the comics.
and
for the pre-1998 titles, they live and die by the Japanese manual translations
and
Vague signs include their habit of buying only the Japanese versions of the games (although a lot of them don't even understand Japanese), bickering about how crappy the English voices are (you know, as if we couldn't have already figured that out ourselves), and, of course, ranting endlessly about how Sonic is going down the drain and his fame has dissipated and is losing the image he once had; turning into a corny catchphrase-spewing money grabber.
And of course:
in general are pretty rude and impolite people
Well, it's always nice to be noticed, innit?
Fix'd.for the pre-1998 titles, they live, die and kill by the Japanese manual translations
And this is shocking; I definitely don't like the Japanese voices. Though Kanemaru does a good job, most of the others suck.
Not that they're enacting the most impressive, profound, thought-provoking scenarios in the history of games, anyways.
