As far as HD goes, I have seen Xbox 360 and PS3 games running in HD, and they are EXTREMELY pretty. But after playing Prime 3 in 480p and seeing how beautiful it was, methinks that being able to see the pores on critters faces is somewhat overrated.
Eventually though graphics will hit a standstill and then this issue will no longer exist.
EDIT: Good lord but Halo 3 does look pretty. I admit it would have been nice for corruption to be in high def, but it would have cost 300 dollars more

Maybe it'd be worth it. But in this way, Nintendo is getting much more people to play it, aren't they?
It was obvious that the Mega Drive was better than the Famicom, not so obvious between the Mega Drive and the Super Famicom, and definitely hard to tell between the Saturn, the PlayStation and the Nintendo 64 (it all depended of a specific game or genre).
So yeah, the buzzwords back then had some factual backing of sorts that has been somewhat lost lately, and the raw tech specs are nigh impossible to comprehend as a whole. Even the main features are lost in the consumers, this is proof that most people may buy systems and games based squarely on their personal preferences and whatever their friends tell them.
Since the big break of 3D graphics into the gaming realm, there're so many technical aspects and graphical technologies that most people aren't sure about what system's exactly more powerful, given that they all have (sometimes radically) different architectures.Esrever wrote:I meant it more in the way that HD is a label, like "32 bit" once was, that inaccurately gets tossed around like it is synonymous with amazing graphics. I think a lot of people don't even understand what it actually technically is. They just know it's good, like "16 megs" was good or "blast processing" was good.

If I get it right, all consoles since the Nintendo 64 use 64-bit registries and buses for the main processor(s), and those numbers only change for the graphics processing units of each system.
In the case of the 360's Xenos, I'll guess it uses 128-bit registries and several dedicated 64-bit buses, but it could very well use 64-bit registries at a very high clock speed, too. The PS3's Reality Synthesizer uses 128-bit registries, and it's main GDDR3 VRAM subsystem operates with a 128-bit memory bus.
EDIT: Forget the main CPU's bit. Both consoles use SIMD type 128-bit register files.

First footage of the game from TGS '07:

Even if the game isn't from an HD output, it's still one of the best looking games this gen. Here's hoping it's an improvement from Odin Sphere.

Vanillaware doesn't seem like type of company to port their games to other consoles--especially if they are unpopular.Majestic Joey wrote:Hopefully it comes out for other systems or I will definately have to get a Wii.

Only time that has ever been an issue for me is when I got flash banged in Rainbow Six Vegas and basically the entire screen goes white except for the burning of whatever you were looking at. I always play in a well lit room cause I hate playing games in the dark, but god damn is my screen bright when those flash bangs go off.Majestic Joey wrote:I love how HD looks but it also hurts the hell out of my eyes. after about an hour of playing a video game I have to look away from the screen for a minute. Anybody else get that feeling?
Does anyone know why certain games have kind of a shimmering effect on my HDTV that I didn't notice on the one that got stolen. Gears of War in particular kinda glitters with any movement that looks kind of weird, Stranglehold kind of did it too.
