Ah. It worked! Thanks.

Crap, I just noticed that was in the file appropriately titled "READ ME YOU FOOL." This is what I get for being a fool.

Shadow Hog wrote:Well, the two projects had pretty different "styles", you could say. Retro Sonic was a more laidback take on the franchise, while Sonic XG was considerably edgier and more action-packed (as evidenced by the fact they freakin' crash the Death Egg into Angel Island and smash it to pieces... in the first real level). Now, apparently, both styles are going to merge into one, and this leaves me wondering how exactly that's going to work out - they somewhat clash. I was actively looking forward to Retro Sonic more than XG (not that I wasn't looking forward to XG), but now to look forward to either one is to look forward to both, like it or not, so to play Retro Sonic now, I have to accept that they're actively breaking canon and smashing Angel Island to bits.

Funny thing is, this isn't the first merger Sonic XG has gone through, either... It was once Sonic Forever, before it was merged with another Sonic fangame whose name I can't even remember.
I can see how that might be a little disappointing. But still, it's their games, and they can do whatever they want to do with them! If they think they can make it work, it's their call. It's their project, their free time that they're putting into it... they're the ones who ought decide what style they want it to be!

Throwing a huge hissy about how it is "unfair" and "disgusting" that someone is not making a free game for you to your exact specifications is a pretty severe case of outrageous internet entitlement if I have ever seen it. (And I am a webcartoonist, so I see a LOT of it.)

Plus, the Retro Sonic engine is moddable. I'm certain that there will be a way to play Retro Sonic "as it was originally intended".

I mean, the previous Retro Sonic demo didn't exactly have an abundance of original content. I think it had two original levels (Egg Garden and something else - Construction Zone, or whatever) and two or three levels based on other things (Dust Hill, etc.).

I'm sure if somebody out there is dedicated enough, porting those levels over to make sort of a "Retro Sonic Classic Edition" (ironic name, I know) would be easy.

Eternal Rings. The last demo I played felt like Sonic meets Bubsy II controls meets Cool Spot level design. Awkward alright, but strangely charming.

Wow. I'm not updated AT ALL here. Last fan game I played and enjoyed was something like "The Fast Revelation" or "The Fated Hour"... and this other Time Attacked or something like that. And of course, SRB2, which I still play now and then. I think I even played one of yours Blaze. I remember seeing Blaze somewhere.

Retro and XG merging together...? Well, if we get one GREAT fangame instead of two okay fangames... then it's a good thing. Maybe they'll fix those sprites.

This is what I mean: This pose sucks. It looks like Sonic Spinball.

But these are cool.

But I'm actually more excited about the Development Kit than any game. THAT can bring some good stuff.

Yeah. Surprisingly I still work on it from time to time and... uh, I've made some changes to the storyline to make it seem less like a 15 year old wrote it.
