Is this really a problem? Maybe it's from hanging around here too much, I was under the impression that people thought SA2 was a somewhat mediocre affair.

Well, the younger fans seem to love it. Basically Shadow fanboys. Also, they inexplicably refer to the game solely as Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

I would say Sonic 2 16-bit is the most overrated Mega Drive Sonic game. Its' a great game, but I always liked the original 16-bit Sonic 1, Sonic CD, and especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles better.

Not just the framerate, but also the quality. They're something along the lines of Dragon's Lair. Until Sonic Gems, the best Sonic CD intro we had was from the PC version (not counting Sonic Jam, which only has the movies, not the game). But even so, the game could only run on 256 colors, and the movie had far more than that. So, if you see the movie in the game, you'll have some low quality colors, but the .avis are there in the CD for you to watch in its 16/32bit color glory. They were in widescreen, but not the nice widescreen where you get to see more in the sides, it's the bad one where you get to see less up and down.

Summing up, even with the whole low-framerate-for-Sonic-Boom thing, Gems still has the best intros.

I thought the same until I played S3&K ad nauseum to the point where my major gripe with it is it was a little too easy. Of course, a lot of this was probably from my repeated plays, but I found that S2 is pretty much has the highest challenge to frustration ratio, and I have to give credit where it's due for that. Especially since I've pulled hair out at some point on every 3D title.

I never cared that much about Sonic 2 after having played S3&K. It's the only Sonic game I don't own. But I still play S3&K after beating it 804349814901 times.

Back on the SGC thing, the Game Gear games are all in japanese (Sonic & Tails 2... you know the drill), but Sonic CD is still with the US soundtrack. Now I don't get anything anymore.

Someone's forgetting Sonic Mega Collection also had the opening and ending videos for Sonic CD. The ending video runs at the original intended framerate. Though they still use the US songs, but that's easily rectified with the right tools.

Also, no one mentioned that the SEGA/MEGA CD Sonic CD is the only version that shows a closeup of "Mt. Eggman" the Little Planet is chained to in the video? The "full" videos that surfaced afterwards omit this scene. And then there's the part of the ending that establishes the elusive "R2" stage as having existed at one point (though I see it was removed in the Gems version... nice try, Sega).

Fixed.

The PC version had it. I remember it very clearly. But I DO miss the R2 stage bit, that was sweet, the thing with the bear trap.

Sonic 2 will always remain my favorite. It has slightly better level design than S3&K and the spin-dash, which is missing from Sonic 1. S3&K relied somewhat on the story, which was fine back in the day, but now it's easily over-looked, in my opinion.
