After a bizarre instance at a club last Tuesday, my totally rocking dance-punk duo Neon Confederacy managed to convinced a seemingly wasted college student that we were catching fire around the country and that he could be on the cutting edge of college radio by putting our EP into moderate circulation. Brushing it off as an impossibility, we continued the night at the party we were at, not bothering to remember his name or what station he was a part of. So, we went home, and on the way, the man called me on my cell (which I had given him and forgotten about).
"Hey, Greg. I just listened to the EP you gave me. It's pretty great stuff."
"Thanks, but it's pretty rough. We cut it in under three hours, and I don't even have it formally copied... (Still don't. I have a pressing of it just lying next to my computer, but alas, I am lazy)"
"Dude, that doesn't even really matter." At this point, his speech started to slur, and the details were hard to pick up. The gist of it was that he planned to take it to his friend who actually ran the radio station.
I forgot about this until this morning, when I walked by TCC on the way to Target and heard the unique sound of a bass-drum rendition of Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! coming out of someone's radio. Puzzled, I walked over, and I asked him who was on the radio.
Lazily, he answered, "I don't know, it was some band named Neon something... Like Neon Government or some pseudo-philosophical bullshit. Song's catchy, though."
At that point, I'd already begun fantasizing about a major US tour, playing to moderately attentive crowds, endorsing various musical instruments at the drop of a hat...
Granted, my song has only been played once in the past week, and it is an ABBA cover, but nonetheless, I've been riding on a pretty good wave for the past few days. I'll probably fall into obscurity, but hell, I'm on local radio. It's a start.
Baba takes community college radio to the next level.

See, that might apply...
...if there was anything in the song but bass and drums. Sadly, Neon Confederacy has no nifty MySpace. We do have a steadily growing cult following, though (we sold five NEON CONFEDERACY MADE THIS SHIRT USING SHARPIES AND ROCK t-shirts last night), and I'm sure that before you know it, Rolling Stone will be sucking our creative cocks.

Please say it's not Mamma Mia. It's way too late for me to change my EP's tracklisting.Baba O'Reily wrote:Granted, my song has only been played once in the past week, and it is an ABBA cover, but nonetheless, I've been riding on a pretty good wave for the past few days. EDIT: Apparently I don't know enough about the group to know what "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" means. Still, freaky-ass coincidence.
EDIT 2: Seconding the notion that you share your music with us. Googling your band name brought up one hit entitled "Nice Fish Ness".

That's not us. The only other songs on the EP were an instrumental double-time version of Manic Depression and an original called All of My Exes Look Like Maggie Gyllenhaal, which has actually been the title of at least three songs I've written.
And as soon as I get back my copy of the EP from my bandmate, I will post my songs and all will be right in the world.
On the off chance that anyone still cares and happens to look at this update, in my profile is a link to my MySpace, which features my solo music. That'll give you a good idea of what Neon Confederacy sounds like.
