I think you missed the point of what mad_cat was doing there. He took one of Popcorn's earlier statements and used it for himself (albeit very poorly).

The way I see it, when Christians are told to prove why we should believe a God exists, they can't respond with "Why shouldn't it?". When you are arguing a point that defies all logical and scientific reasoning, the burden lies with you to prove it is real, not for the other person to prove it isn't.

And that is why this whole pink unicorn/bees/honey thing has got you in a corner, mad_cat. Despite how stupid the entire concept sounds, you cannot possibly disprove it. Now replace "pink unicorns" with "God" and we've got the exact same argument you've been using this entire time.

There is no evidence for God's existence. You can't say something like "Well we have miracles all the time", because that doesn't inherently prove the existence of any deity. Bees are pretty angry, but that doesn't in turn prove the phenomena of invisible pink unicorns.

Esrever, I wouldn't be so quick to point out the appendix as an argument against intelligent design. We thought the pineal gland was useless less than 50 years ago.

I don't want to turn this into an anatomy argument, I'm just saying.

Just thought I'd pop in and note that scientists have as of late been considering the appendix as a possible aid in digestion of denser, more fibrous plant life that we no longer ingest. This is from a somewhat recent issue of National Geographic, so things could easily have changed by now.

Oh no, that's totally my point. It's a bad argument, just like the bombardier beetle one is a bad argument... you know, the whole "well if you're theory is so right than explain THIS asshole" bit. It's a negative argument, one that relies entirely on a lack of available knowledge rather than observing an actual error or flaw.

Frieza, I see what you're getting at. But you know, it's not about choosing "one side or the other." There are far more that two options to choose from, after all.

Yes, by not being completely convinced by any one organized religion, I have effectively made a choice and that choice is not to follow any of them. That doesn't mean that I sit on the fence and try to live by the "rules" of multiple religions to cover my ass. It means I live by a set of personal rules and principles that are not completely grounded in any one specific faith. A lot of people fall into that category, including a fair number of people who consider themselves Christians even though they disagree with or outright ignore specific aspects of it.

You're too quick to judge. You just assume since it says 'Christian' in the URL that it must be run by a bunch of nutjobs. Some of the reviews are a bit extreme, but not all of them.
