I think you missed the point of what mad_cat was doing there. He took one of Popcorn's earlier statements and used it for himself (albeit very poorly).Light Speed wrote:Wow, so you just went from reprimanding him for claiming his viewpoint is right, which was arrogant, to pretty much telling him he is wrong based on nothing. You haven't made a single argument to your case yet. Wouldn't you agree that is worse than what you accused Popcorn of doing?
The way I see it, when Christians are told to prove why we should believe a God exists, they can't respond with "Why shouldn't it?". When you are arguing a point that defies all logical and scientific reasoning, the burden lies with you to prove it is real, not for the other person to prove it isn't.
And that is why this whole pink unicorn/bees/honey thing has got you in a corner, mad_cat. Despite how stupid the entire concept sounds, you cannot possibly disprove it. Now replace "pink unicorns" with "God" and we've got the exact same argument you've been using this entire time.
There is no evidence for God's existence. You can't say something like "Well we have miracles all the time", because that doesn't inherently prove the existence of any deity. Bees are pretty angry, but that doesn't in turn prove the phenomena of invisible pink unicorns.

Eff-eff-ess dude! There is no wrong answer and there is no right one!mad_cat_42 wrote:I'm not criticising Popcorn for taking what he thinks is true to be true; what I'm saying is he shouldn't think it's true, because it's not.
You're turning into a bigot that gives Christians a bad name, that would only serve to the advantage of those who question a god's existence.
Ohnoes, get the Comfy Chair! And I thought the Inquisition was long-gone...

This is a good approach to objective subjects and a good attitude to have when you're young, but at some point you need to decide how you want to live your life. When faced with a "do this or else" situation that religions generally present, you need to decide whether or not it's true, even if you're not 100% certain of either choice, because it usually impacts your lifestyle. You could sit on the fence and give a half assed effort toward living by the beliefs, but I think that's stupid. It's good to stay open and willing to change as you learn more, but by your actions you effectively choose one side or the other whether or not you consciously “believe.â€￾Esrever wrote:In my life, I try not to make up definitive answers where they don't exist. Oh no, that's totally my point. It's a bad argument, just like the bombardier beetle one is a bad argument... you know, the whole "well if you're theory is so right than explain THIS asshole" bit. It's a negative argument, one that relies entirely on a lack of available knowledge rather than observing an actual error or flaw.Segaholic2 wrote:Esrever, I wouldn't be so quick to point out the appendix as an argument against intelligent design. We thought the pineal gland was useless less than 50 years ago.
I don't want to turn this into an anatomy argument, I'm just saying.
Frieza, I see what you're getting at. But you know, it's not about choosing "one side or the other." There are far more that two options to choose from, after all.
Yes, by not being completely convinced by any one organized religion, I have effectively made a choice and that choice is not to follow any of them. That doesn't mean that I sit on the fence and try to live by the "rules" of multiple religions to cover my ass. It means I live by a set of personal rules and principles that are not completely grounded in any one specific faith. A lot of people fall into that category, including a fair number of people who consider themselves Christians even though they disagree with or outright ignore specific aspects of it.

Well...Demons and Angels exist.
you see, psychics and other people actually have the "power" or clear mind to see them and hear them, thats why psychics knows stuff because the "spirit" tells them stuff. this guy Sargel 18 can see em and hear them, he discovered a way for them to show up in photos.

its some crazy shit, give the site a visit.
