Oh, the drama...

Post by The Doc »

I'm looking for some dramatic songs, I was wondering if you could recommend me some. It doesn't matter the genre, just as long as they have a dramatic, build-up feel to it.

For exampe, a good classical dramatic song is Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries. A good pop/rock dramatic song is Evanescence's Bring Me to Life.

Again, it doesn't matter the genre, but if you could give the genre along with it so that finding it is that much easier, I'd appreciate it.

Heh, I was going to say Bring Me To Life up until I saw you'd already typed it.

Lessee... here's a list off the top of my head and from a quick search through my playlist:

Disarm - Smashing Pumpkins
Kryptonite - Three Doors Down
Wise Up - Aimee Mann
Like A Stone - Audioslave
I Am The Highway - Audioslave
Put It In Your Heart - Bruce Cockburn
Cup Of Coffee - Garbage
Silence Is Golden - Garbage
Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls
Ghost - Indigo Girls
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley
Grace - Jeff Buckley
Cathderals - Jump Little Children
Your Stories, My Alibis - Matchbook Romance
Weapon - Matthew Good (or The Matthew Good Band, it's listed under both)
You're Not Here - Melissa Williams (Silent Hill 3 theme)
South Side - Moby
Don't Speak - No Doubt
Wanderlust - Nightwish
Bare Grace Misery - Nightwish
The Kids Aren't All Right - The Offspring
This Is OUr Emergency - Pretty Girls Make Graves
No One Knows - Queens Of The Stone Age
Losing My Religion - REM
Runaway Train - Soul Asylum
Save Yourself - Stabbing Westward
Roulette - System Of A Down
Chop Suey! - System Of A Down
Drops Of Jupiter - Train
Dear God - XTC

Some of these probably don't fit... I went a little song-crazy there.

When I think of songs with dramatic build up, you can't do too much better than "God" by John Lennon.

It doesn't have quite the same effect as it probably had in 1971 when this could've been considered blasphemy, I'm sure; but it's still a great dramatic song.

I'll probably add more when I have time.

Drama, eh? Mars by Holst is extremely dramatic. I also like Sympathy for the Devil (and if that's not blasphemy...) by The Rolling Stones, and Set the Controls by Pink Floyd. Unfortunately, the buildup in those two is more hypnotic than dramatic. Dunno why I bothered posting them, as a matter of fact... Oh well. Dig them out anyway, they're still good music. Sorry I wasn't much help.

Holy moly..

You guys, and your taste in music...

I'm going to like it here. Yes, yes.. I may not be a gamer anymore, but I do love teh music.

Um.. anyway, as for a dramatic song. I see you listed "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence. You may want to download their track "Whisper", it gets all dramatic/cinamatic-like.

Also some other songs, that haven't been mentioned:

"Streamline" by System of a Down
"Stay and Drown" by Finger Eleven
"Obvious Heart" by Finger Eleven
"Don't Know When But a Day Is Going To Come" by Bright Eyes
"Climbing Up The Walls" by Radiohead
"The Ghost Woman And The Hunter" by Lacuna Coil

Ride of the Valkyries sucks. However I think it'd make good entrance music. I think I'm gonna stick it on my Palm and play it whenever I walk into a room.

Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" has pretty damn good buildup.

Hmm, The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony? That seems to fit just about anything dramatic.

I think a better choice might be "Bohemian Rhapsody".

There is a fucking dramatic build-up song.
