An Odd Request

Post by Senbei »

Fully realizing how out of place this topic is here, I am, for my own sanity, obligated to post it. If Segaholic or anyone thinks it's too bizarre or a waste of space, I won't be bothered if it's deleted.

So, my point. I recently picked up the album "Re" from the Mexican band Cafe Tacuba. I've enjoyed the album, but have no idea what the lyrics mean because I forfeited my chance to learn Spanish long ago. "Not a problem," I thought. "I'll just look up English translations on the net!"

Unfortunately, every Google search I've run has only turned up Spanish lyrics. So I came back here. Would anyone happen to know where I can find translations? Or would anyone be willing to translate? Lyrics can be found at this fansite.

Oh, and whether or not you understand Spanish, you should go buy Re. It's some good shit.

I'd recomend running the spanish through Babelfish, it ought to be at least a little bit more effective than its Japanese, I would think. That will give some gist of it, maybe.

Mmm, that'll have to do for now I guess. Thanks once again, Douglas Adams.

That's... an odd request. But I can comply! Well, as long as you don't care my terrible english.

So, PM for the songs you want translated.

And thank you, Senbei, for your Death Note avatar.

On a largely unrelated note, have you ever read the Battle Royale Manga? What's it like? The TV version got good reviews in Wired, so...

Wow, that went off-topic fast, though I should have expected it. I welcome talk about Death Note, though. (Never even heard of Battle Royale.) Apparently, there're going to be a couple live-action films, according to Wiki. I hope they either make their way to the States or I magically become an expert in the Japanese language before next month.

Uh, I've read the Battle Royale manga up to volume 14, so I guess I can give an impression on it (I also read the novel shortly after I finished volume 14 because I just wanted to soak the story into my brain already).

It's a decent manga, I suppose, but my main complaint is how over-the-top the death and sex scenes are. It's like, the artist tries to draw every death scene (even somewhat tame death scenes) as gruesome as possible. Blood, organs, and bodily fluids spill out everywhere in these scenes.

Otherwise, I thought it was a good read, and I didn't consider reading the manga a waste of my time. But my tastes are in mangas with loveable characters and funny characters like in One Piece and Eyeshield 21.

Senbei, you can find a trailer for the Deathnote movie here. Looks like it emcompasses the first three or so volumes.

Although I do love Deathnote (but seem to always be too poor to buy the volumes, and so read much of it in the store), I like loveable and funny characters too. Although, my favorite manga, Fruits Basket, is probably far to girly for anyone on this site(and this time, I spelled it correctly).

Another good one is Spiral, but not many people have heard of that. Does anyone here know about it? I have yet to read the manga, but I've seen the anime-- It was good, but it had an incredibly shitty ending.

And for the sake of staying on topic: Where can you find "Re" online?

If you're talking about free download or whatever, I have no idea; I'm not hip like that. You can certainly find samples all over the place, like Amazon or Myspace, or any number of generic OMG RINGTONES! sites. I picked up the album at Barnes and Noble for about $12, which isn't too bad, plus the booklet has some nice artwork, so if you've got the money and you liked the samples, it's probably worth buying.

Feeding the manga subplot... I've been throughly enjoying the Midori Days series and was delighted to see the US release of the anime recently. Also, Delphine was, once again, entirely correct in her praise of Monster. This is a manga that one should buy without even thinking about it. Just do it.

Death Note Live? Hell yes. Was that Gackt as L? I didn't catch it in the credits, so...

I'm feeling pretty stupid generic for recommending the JAPANESE Naruto, but well... Also, if you liked Battle Royale, you may try Gantz. You can download some chapters from Manga Download (but try to be straight, and BUY IT).

Yeah, like the cell phone commercial, which was definitly just a personal ad for Gackt, because no one was looking at the cell phone.
FFAc would have been good, but Cloud was really just Gackt as CG, which was unoriginal.

Also, it looks like Light's dad is played by Takeshi Kaga, who is the original Iron Chef. Again, according to Wiki. Thank you, internets.

Naruto makes my soul visibly twitch.

And the media in question features Chairman Kaga? I must find it immediately and watch it endlessly.

I would like to see this very much.

Back to Death Note, did anyone else notice Lind L. Taylor? In the manga he was young, stern, and overall cool, but in the movie he looks like Lyndon B. Johnson. Bit of an overhaul, don't you think?

I agree. However, since the video address wasn't working on my computer, I had to go to You Tube to see it, and everything was so dark that I could barely make out Light or L. Is the video that this site links to any better than the You Tube one?

Again off-topic, it has nothing to do with this type of manganime, but I can't help myself off recommending Ashita no Nadja; it's some kind of merge between Candy Candy, CardCaptor Sakura and Sakura Taisen 3 (in that exact priority order) that's THE SHIT of the shoujo genre. I'm personally watching the spanish dub at the latin Cartoon Network, and it's so fucking perfect I didn't ever feel the slightest need of gettin' a fansub.

Also off-topic, in the stupid fan-service genre some quality pieces can be found by the names of Ikkitousen and Air Gear (which can also be found at Manga Download).

And also, if it's about some latin music, I recommend the techno remix of Carajo's theme "Triste" (sad) -Electrorroto-.
