Sonic CD Japanese PC Port - music query

Post by hello.jpg »

Just a quick question regarding the Sonic CD PC Port. After mindlessly reading over the Sonic CD page on the GHZ, I came to wondering if the Japanese version of the PC port was complete with the USA soundtrack or the original Ogata/Hataya colloboration.

I seem to recall that before the pages went over an overhaul sometime last year (or perhaps even in 2002), GG! was far more definite about this statement:
After failing to become the killer app the Sega CD so desperately needed, Sonic CD was later revived on PC. The PC version included the full anime intro (not available to console players until Sonic Jam), along with Spencer Nilsen's soundtrack.
Instead of just saying that "the PC version" came with the US soundtrack, as I recall, he said adamantly that all 3 regions (USA, Japan and Europe) had the American soundtrack.

What I'd like to know (god, this isn't a "quick question", is it?) is does the Japanese Sonic CD computer rehash have the original soundtrack or the American score? And does anyone own the Japanese version as "proof"?

Yeah, I think that's about it. I do go on, don't I? Quick question my arse.

I do remember hearing that somewhere, but I can't recall the source. I think I later assumed it was incorrect, but now that I think about it, I've never played the Japanese version of Sonic CD PC, so... I dunno, that's a good question.

I couldn't tell you. All I know is that the music is standard Red Book, so it makes it easy to replace.
