In the early games they seem to be in the south pacific, South Island is the name of a real island and Sonic was supposedly born on Christmas Island (Also a real island) it is clear that Station Square is based on Southern California as well or even more so are the levels in Sonic Adventure 2 set in a San Francisco like city and the bridges which seem to be based on the Golden Gate bridge. In SA2 they had Egyptian like Pyramids closely to the San Francisco like city but you could argue that?s because they wanted to put levels like that in there.
Told you he was American, j-man. Not only did the planning team (despite being Japanese, but that's the only exception in my equation) finally come up with Sonic in San Francisco, but the most important landmarks in the series are also based around there!
South Island and Christmas Island are based around Australia, not America. And the fact that the creators are Japanese actually helps your argument somewhat, considering Japan's fascination with the west. Half of what Sonic says on the Japanese voice tracks is abused English.

Funny. I always thought that Station Square was modelled after Tokyo, just because, you know, that city seems to be a place that giant monsters are naturally attracted to.
But Frieza, I always thought that there was a south island just a little bit away from the Bay bridge (however I can't argue with Christmas Island). Also, SA2's "Station Square" (i.e. City Escape) is more based off of San Francisco because of all the hills and the trolley cars, it's what the city is known for. I had family who lived there for awhile and the hills were so bad that they had to leave their '67 Mustang behind when they moved there because it was a stick shift.
Awhile ago in a topic I can't remember off hand. I said something like "[Sonic was made]...In America, For Americans" and you responded with "LIES" or something of the like.
Yeah, that sounds like something I'd say. I won't bother going off on another unnecessary diatribe, though; I'll let our resident pedants crawl out of the woodwork and do all the ranting about cannons and suchlike.
No, I'm not French - but considering that you're an American, doesn't that make you an obese, gun toting imbecile without any cultural education at all? No, it doesn't.
Who was it who won the two World Wars again? Oh yeah, the Allied forces. I'm sure there was a couple French guys in there. Maybe a couple fucking thousand.
Seriously, why is it that (almost) every American smugly claims that the French "always lose their wars" or whatever? Is it like some massive plague of ignorance passed down through generations? Is it something in the water? Someone help me, here.
