But when are the makers of Super Smash Bros and DC comics going to get together so that we can have SNK vs Marvel vs Capcon vs Nintendo vs DC Smash Bros Intergalactic Tournament? I want to see Terry, Spidey, Megaman, Pikachu, and Wonder Woman in an all-out brawl!
I remember playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the Dreamcast with my friend awhile back. I'd always pick Megaman and some guy I've never heard of and my friend would pick Megaman and Venom. We would just press as many buttons as we could at once until we randomly did our special, whoever connected first one. Very entertaining... yet retarded.
On topic, I was thinking that I should have mentioned a few more things to watch out for that won't give anything specific away to ruin your enjoyment:
-There is still a little too much use of CGI and it's still pretty noticeable where it's at, but it's not nearly as much as the first film.
-It doesn't look like Gwen Stacy is going to make it to the big screen anytime soon.
-MJ again finds herself soaked and braless, giving you some more nippleage.
-There's way more of Raimi's signature camera moves in this film. Anyone who's ever watched the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness series knows what I'm talking about here. Especially during the hospital scene.
-Spidey seems to have a penchant for taking off his mask now.
-As in the scene from the original where the New Yorkers on the bridge throw things at the Green Goblin, there is a somewhat similar scene in the sequel to, presumably, try and show New Yorkers/the average citizen as tough and caring people that are willing to stick up for each other. You'll know which scene I'm talking about when you see it; it definitely walks the line between powerful and corny.
-Was John Jameson a character in the comics, too?
-One of the complaints from raging fanboys about Spidey's organic webshooters was that he would never have the problem of running out of webs at the wrong time, as he did in the comics. That's not true.
-It's very nice to see that, unlike the Batman movie series in which the cast rotated from movie to movie, in this one we get a nice cameo from Willem Dafoe and the guy that played Uncle Ben, too.
-The movie gives a nice quick recap during the opening credits comic book style, but don't go seeing this one if you haven't seen the original. And if you haven't seen the original yet, what the fuck is wrong with you?
-Spidey seems to have a penchant for taking off his mask now.
To give Tobey McGuire more screen-time so that it actually seems like he's in the movie.

There's only so much juice the average healthy male can produce. *snickers*
JJ Jameson had a son in the comics who was an astronaut. Is that the "John Jameson" who you're refering to, Grant?
Is Zemeckis still on track with that live action/CGI transformers movie? It sounds like a train wreck, but last I heard they had got the original voice actors of Megatron and Optimus. And if anyone can pull off a live action/animation mix, it's Zemeckis.

Yeah. I wasn't aware of him. I'm guessing he was with Mary Jane in the books for a time, too?

I think he would've had plenty of face time without the constant removing of his mask, but you're right - it probably is to reinforce the idea that it's supposed to be Tobey Maguire in the suit and not CGI or stuntmen.
John Jameson (JJJ's son) is the one that marries MJ and becomes (or is) the astronaut that brings the symbiote (Venom) back to Earth. That is, if I remember correctly.
Amazing Grant wrote:I always thought Spider-Man got the symbiote suit from his participation in the Marvel "Secret Wars" mini-series, but I'm hardly a Spidey historian.
He did. It was just in the cartoon that John Jameson brought the symbiote to Earth.
John Jameson and Mary Jane never had much to do with each other at all in the comics.
I don't remember seeing John Jameson in any of the regular Spiderman comics other than the very first issue. But John was always used as a partial explanation for why JJJ didn't like masked superheroes... he thought the "real" heroes were men who didn't wear masks, men like his son. Bendis put an interesting twist on this in the new "Ultimate" Spiderman books... in that line, John was killed in a shuttle explosion.

Excellent. Evil Dead felt really crazy because of these. I still remember the scene with Ash laying in the mud and suddenly the camera does a wild spinning-rush-zoom from his face straight into the sky. It was very dizzying and very cool. The only time you really noticed these sorts of signature camera stuff in the first one was unfortunately during the fight scenes. Glad to see they're back :E
