Oh yeah, I think Raijin (FFVIII) is cool too.

I also like Mystere (Lunar 2).

Is anyone else finding it ironic that a forum for a SONIC website is against Mainstreaming videogames?

I mean, Mario was made and designed due to where videogames were at at the time. Thus he wears a cap not cuz its cool, but because he HAD to wear a cap. same for dungarees. Mario was an exact product of videogames and became a mascot almost by accident.

Sonic was made and designed specifically for the mainstream audience. SEGA could not have tried harder to recruit a mascot that was "hip" and would sell as many units as possible.

I'm here at this site because I love Sonic and, indeed, NiGHTS so dont start a silly "you love mario/haterz sonic!!1" thing. Just pointing out that although videogames are going mainstream, mainstream isn't actually bad and is possibly why most of us are hear at this site anyway. Plus, Donkey Konga is fun. Mainstream as hell but fun. Thats all I want from a game. (most the time).

Thought, are games GOING mainstream, or are they already there? I mean, they may be gunning for more sales, but thats just down to marketing right?

Nakasan, that was a poorly thought out post that rambled on incoherently and made very little sense.
However, it was nicely spaced out, so you get a 'C'.

That's the problem with you. You don't care. Feel the love, man.

I missed being an opening act for a Big D and the Kids Table concert to help a friend get his car out of a ditch.
I'm not quite feeling anything but a mild, seething annoyance.

Big D and the Kids Table probably didn't need openers, if it makes you feel any better.

True, but it'd be something to tell the grandkids.

That means game development costs are skyrocketing and that leads to the big-budget Hollywood blockbuster syndrome. Bigger investments means developers must "play it safe" for fear of losing their ass. And that means fewer and fewer oddball "niche" games like those mentioned above and more quickie knock-offs based on movies.
I think this is what we're getting at when we say mainstream. Sex and violence don't bother us, but unoriginal games are already beginning to bore us.

Back in the day the mainstream was different, it mainly consisted of geeks and nerds like us but now everyone and their dog has a console so the styling of games were changed to suit them. In other words we are bitching about a different kind of mainstream.

Well, yeah. But I didn't even get to see the show. And I didn't get to give my new song a test run, 'Anything to Everyone'.

I'm generally ambivalent about ska, but I just got back from seeing Mustard Plug and a bunch of other local Cleveland ska bands - one of which a buddy of mine was in, which is why I went - and they were pretty good.

For what it's worth.

Everyone loves ska, just like everyone loves Bob Marley.

Is truer a word?
