Yeah well it's been like that for a while and he's shown little interest in getting a new one. If it completely breaks, he'll probably just borrow (steal) mine. But you're right though, PS2's are selling like hot cakes right now.
FFXI addicts are all buying spares since they know theirs will one day break and they will be fucked. Then again, FFXI doesn't require any disc reading so they should all probably be ok.
