Because Inafune doesn't get a huge boner over Iris like he does for Zero.

That, and Iris's very existance causes the fangirls to vomit with rage.

Zeta wrote:More than the first. He died depending on what you did in the third, second, and fifth games as well. He's like Kenny.
He was still dead in the second one, so in the bad scenario he doesn't die so much as doesn't get to be rebuilt. He never died in any scenario in the third one. In the fifth game, he dies in all but one ending, in which it's implied that X dies. (The fifth game, by the way, was supposed to be the end of the X games, meaning that Zero was meant to have died permanently.)

I think Inafune has always wanted to kill off Zero. X1's ending stated that Zero would never return from his heroic sacrifice, X2's story started to hint that Zero was a creation of Dr. Wily, X3's ending stated that X would ultimately have to kill Zero for humanity to be safe, and X4 and X5 made the Zero-Wily connection painfully obvious and also tagged Zero as the origin of the virus that causes Reploids to become evil. It's just that the Capcom suits won't ever allow it.

Well they went from trying to kill zero off to making games ONLY about him. like going from sonic's speed to relying on faggy characters.

I think Iris was just shoehorned haphazardly into the series as a last ditch attempt to inject some heterosexuality into a storyline dominated by feminine men and the lifelong bonds forged between them.

You know, like Arwen in the Lord of the Rings.

There was Eowyn too. Aragorn was a pimp.

(quote)They're like red shirts, only - you know - they add enough to the story that you'd rather them NOT die - because Zero, X, Sigma, and even Axl being the only true reoccuring characters is incredibly boring.(quote)

This is more a warning than a spoiler: Sigma isn't even mentioned in Command Mission.
