Kameo

Post by Light Speed »

Have any of you guys been following this new Rare game? I may be finding out about this late considering it comes out on January 3rd, but my friend just told me about it. I checked it out at Gamespot and it looks pretty badass. Apparently you can turn into these 10 different animals at any time while fighting to defeat your foes. Apparently you can create some devastating combos that the game rewards with a higher score which unlocks secrets. Any of you guys looking forward to this?

Really reminds me of Digimon Frontier, actually. Which isn't a good thing.

Also, it's by Rare - who are known for laying it on thick when it comes to extra characters in their games - they just put too much crap in and it confuses everything. This might just end up being "Donkey Kong 64" for the X-box.

Also, Rare's never been good at naming their characters. "Chilla"? "Major Damage"? Yeah . . .

I'm kind of interested. I think this was originally a GameCube project, before the buy-out, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, it was one of Rare's games for the Cube before Nintendo dumped them... It never seemed interesting to me on the Cube, and it doesn't seem interesting to me now.

In my opinion, Rare's been a downward slide since Banjo and Kazooie and Perfect Dark.

Supposedly, the transformations are:

An abominable snowman based on the Yeti.

An abominable snowman based on . . . snowmen.

A weed with boxing gloves (what the fuck?)

A traditional, Audrey II-styled Venus flytrap.

A spiked armadillo.

A golem.

A squidman.

A puddle of amorphous, T2-like goo.

A dragon.

A baby salamander.

Definately reminicent of Digimon Frontier. Even down to the character pairings.

And some of those characters really sound sucktackular.

A weed with boxing gloves?

What the hell?!

You transform into them? I thought you raised them more like pets or Pokemon or something.

From Light Speed's Post at the Beginning of this topic:

Execellent deduction, Nate the Great.

That's the name of a series of children's detective books, by the way. And it was also sarcasm.

I read a preview some months ago (like at the beginning of this year), and I'm pretty sure I read that you don't actually transform into the creatures.

I've read the books, ass.

Reminding me of Kameo also reminds me how Rare hasn't produced shit in over a year, except for that gay XBL game. I don't remember the name of it.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies. I don't think anyone bought that game at all. It was aimed at little kids I think, at least that is the impression I got based on the commercial that had 10 years olds playing it. What kind of 10 year old would have Xbox Live anyway? That isn't exactly kiddy country.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies? That wasn't online.

Darn, beaten. Stupid people at work making me do stuff. So, uh... I'm pretty sure Ghoulies wasn't online.

Anyhow, I'm actually pretty excited about Conker Reloaded, or whatever it's called. I never played the N64 game, and this is completely redone and it looks great.

That is the game Netaku is talking about though, right? Or did Rare make another game that was online?

What is up with Rare and their "What th-!?" transformation. One minute a character is a toilet, the next it's a dry cleaner. Is this some sort of British humor or are the trying to be more japanese?

Conker 64 was a fun game, I'm not fan of poop jokes and whatnot, but it was pretty good. DK64, however, can burn in hell. I don't wanna go around collecting 20 different fruits or golden bananas in a big ass world that I get lost so easily in.

Conker's BFD is the only reason my N64 is still plugged in.

Gamecube? Screw that. Kameo started out as an N64 game, I believe.

Yeah... now that you mention it, Kameo was one of those games Rare was making for the N64, before it was abandonned and passed to the "oh-so-hallelluja-great" Cube. But, after Ken Lobb quited/was fired from Nintendo and went to join Microsoft, Rare passed to Micro.'s side.

Unfortunantly, it hasn't produced shit since then.

Downhill after Banjo Kazzoie and Perfect Dark??? Bah, the only good game Rare ever made was Golden Eye. Although, I dunno why, but I always considered DK 64 pretty descent... then again, that's ME you're talking about.

BTW, PD is a good game, but Golden Eye is far superior. (PD's multiplayer has far too many options)

I was critical of Nintendo at the time, but I have to admit... judging by their more recent games, maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to cut them loose.

Starfox Adventures? Grabbed by the Ghoulies? Ow, man. And sure, Conker looks cool, but then, it IS still being built on the foundations of an older game.

Conker, as far as I've heard, is just your standard class-based deathmatch/CTF game (like, say, CS, or Team Fortress) when it comes to live play. (except it's with cute cuddly swearing squirrels)

And of course, Singleplayer is... Conker we've all played before, a 1:1 transition running in an absolutely knock-down drag-out beautiful graphics engine that easily beats out most other Xbox games.

Sabrewulf, though, on the GBA, that was pretty nice.

Sabrewulf.... mmmh....

I wonder if there's any chance that one day we see ALL of Nintendo's franchises in just one console???

So far, Cube has an Excitebike, a Killer Instinct (Nintendo owns the rights), and a pilot wings missing. Plus, I'm sure I'm missing some more.

Sabreman is a horrible, character, though. He's a doddering, aging, British explorer. Not likable, or unique, or very fun to play as. Pitfall Harry could kick his ass.

I just won't say I hate Microsoft because I'm using a computer right now.
