There was so much stuff wrong with that video that I don't know what to tell you. Aren't you that guy who complains about everything? What gives?
I liked the clever way old graphics were recycled to seem like something new, but do you know what I like better than that? Actually new graphics.

Re: In case you forgot what quality is
This is a fan game by one person that looks better than the work of multiple actual game development studios over the span of a decade with double digit millions wasted, even if it recycles things. I think that is praise worthy!
But yeah, you can go play Sonic Free Riders. Good luck!

No, Neo, this is the guy that trolls everybody. For some reason you always fall for it.

Re: In case you forgot what quality is
I am not sure what you meant by this, but for the past 12 or so years the character designs have been completely rediculed by basically everyone who plays games. On the other side of the coin, the classic designs are universally loved completely. Are you going to complain about Tails' model in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 because it is just a slightly variation of his Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sprite next?Neo wrote:I liked the clever way old graphics were recycled to seem like something new, but do you know what I like better than that? Seriously, this is basically what Sonic the Hedgehog 4 should have been, or at least more of what people actually wanted. Look how nice the art and level gimmicks are as compared to vines that float in the air, that snow level looked wonderful in particular... In every way.
I thought Sonic Colors was pretty good overall, but I would quickly throw that in the garbage and completely disown it if the 2D games can be around this quality. The fact that only one guy did this is amazing, the fact that it is a Sonic fan game that was actually completed is astounding.

I will not have my friends rediculed by the common soldiery.

Video Suggestions: Sonic the Hedgehog - It's My Life.
Re: In case you forgot what quality is
It looks like what could have been with Sonic 4, if it hadn't left me entirely cold.
Re: In case you forgot what quality is
Or (shocker) I can just go play a game from a franchise which hasn't sucked for the past ten years!Kogen wrote:But yeah, you can go play Sonic Free Riders. Good luck!

It is my fault for believing that people's hearts are as pure as mine.
I mean that half of the levels shown in that video reuse art from that factory level in Sonic Crackers.Vortex Drone wrote:I am not sure what you meant by this
i was actually a bit miffed by that yesVortex Drone wrote:Are you going to complain about Tails' model in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 because it is just a slightly variation of his Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sprite next?
Re: In case you forgot what quality is
No one knows what the factory art in Sonic Crackers looks like, though. I do not even think most know there is a factory.
Maybe if you were more green like Sonic's eyes then you would appreciate recycling old industry.

Uh oh, a fan game using art from an obscure tech demo masked from the majority of the fan-bases eyes knocks the creators efforts down a per-verbal peg for me too.Neo wrote: I mean that half of the levels shown in that video reuse art from that factory level in Sonic Crackers.
Re: In case you forgot what quality is
It's much more frustrating when you consider that about 80% of all Sonic fan games have already done it before.Malchik wrote:Uh oh, a fan game using art from an obscure tech demo masked from the majority of the fan-bases eyes knocks the creators efforts down a per-verbal peg for me too.Neo wrote:I mean that half of the levels shown in that video reuse art from that factory level in Sonic Crackers.
It's kinda parallel to the criticism of Sonic 4 -- I don't want to play Casino Night again, I'd rather play something fresh. But the camel-back-breaking straw is the fact that there IS fresh stuff to play instead, fan made stuff.
So it's even more infuriating to feel the same thing when looking at a fangame -- because there's a lot of fangames which are completely original and not once do they rehash graphics from old stages. Granted, the trailer in the OP is more of a minor pet peeve, but only recently has it become standard to actually create new stages from the ground up, instead of just taking graphics from Marble Garden, Angel Island and Sky Sanctuary, mashing them up together and calling it a day. That's not to say those fan games can't shine in other ways, most likely through great, original level design, but of course it's easier to attract me with something brand new than with a mix-tape of songs I already own and can already listen to whenever I want.
Or something, I dunno. I didn't like the video.

I do not think the rest of us mastered the Sonic Crackers factory.

Re: In case you forgot what quality is
Neo's totally right. This thing sucks because it reuses level graphics. It pisses me off even further when it ends up looking good - why on earth reuse official 16 bit graphics and take great effort to blend it in with other bits of stolen level art and your envisioned design when you might just as well draw all of it yourself? If you take some time aside to learn the art methods used, it takes about as much effort to draw sonic-ish 20 color art from scratch as it does going and ripping/recoloring/flipping stolen art from a random obscure title nobody will happen to ever recognize. That is a fact and people are just lazy! Why are they not as lazy when it comes to object layout and character roster and moves and all the rest of that poop?
The reason I play Sonic games is for unique levels - re-using level assets is very Mario and shouldn't exist in Sonic. That nameless snow level could play like hotcakes, but due to stupidity of its author it uses Sonic Crackers art which looks heavily trimmed to fit with some other moderately doctored Ice Cap-looking stuff. For the metallic level, it was like - it's Metallic Madness with an ugly color scheme, some lines of which apparently recolored to fit. The only remotely interesting piece was the green level, but immersion was ruined when the CHAOTIX checkered block stood out like a sore thumb. Yeah, yeah, maybe it's just me being a 16-bit Sonic geek and "not everybody played the chaotix factory", but I still can't help to notice these things...so in the end, my honest opinion would be: this sucks.
In short, who are you and what have you done to Kogen?

I cannot tell if you are being sarcastically autistic or if you plan to fill Giffords with a few more holes. Either way, good job!

Yeah not really. I tried cobbling a tileset together not long ago, and it took me three days just to get this far. Pixel art is time-consuming!(No Imagination) wrote:Neo's totally right. If you make a game, remember not to use any rings. We are all sick of that rehashed rubbish and will not put up with it any longer. Try some NEW content, such as collecting Portugese pesos.

In all seriousness, I'm fucking tired of emeralds. By the time I collected fourteen of the fuckers in S&K I just about gave up.Kogen wrote:If you make a game, remember not to use any rings. This is four years old, and took me like 4 weeks to make it look like that.Yeah not really. I tried cobbling a tileset together not long ago, and it took me three days just to get this far. Pixel art is time-consuming!
On the other hand, this is two years old and took me...3 hours total.
Practice makes work go quicker and stuff...you can't expect to pull off Sonicy-looking graphics the first time through, without ever learning how to draw them. It's about as futile as expecting to make a Sonic Megamix in SonED2 and notepad after just three days of fooling around.
...and yes, until you get it right, most of it will look like crap. It's all part of a process.
..."become"..?What?! Next you will try to tell me the warp pipes in Mario have become boring.
