Is it just me who's a sucker for martial arts movies? Funny stuff, like Drunken Master, Kung Fu Hustle, and The Big Boss make me giddy with glee every time a new one hits the box office. They satisfy me in a way American action-comedy movies just can't seem to replicate. Apparently, Jackie Chan still hasn't killed himself yet (doing his own stunts and all), which means everyone can almost bet he's going to attempt another remake. (His recent track record is poor: the New Fist Of Fury was a flop in Hong Kong, and the most recent Karate Kid didn't live up to my expectations.) I noticed near the bottom of his wikipedia page he's going be in an attempt to spruce up another movie this time as a supporting character rather than one of the main ones.

Any thoughts, or feelings?

Oh golly, it's been so long since I've sat down and watched a martial arts film. My childhood was saturated with Jackie Chan, but I can barely remember any of it. All that comes to mind is a whole movie centered around retrieving stolen caviar and a Game Gear that somehow played games without any cartridges. And Chris Tucker.

My focus is more on monsters, what with it being October and all. Might watch The Seven Brothers Meet Dracula.

I went through a phase five or six years ago where I watched tons of asian cinema, and a majority of them were martial arts films. I think the last one I saw was The Forbidden Kingdom, and all I remember about that was the Jackie Chan/Jet Li fight and the Virtua Fighter references. I haven't kept up with any new ones being released, with the Ong Bak movies being the only ones I can think of offhand.

Hell, looking at Jackie Chan's films I realize I haven't seen about half of them, and certainly not this one. I suppose watching those will keep me busy for a while.

I heard that was the movie Stephen Chow made before Kung Fu Hustle but I haven't seen it, was it any good?

I liked it better than Kung Fu Hustle, so you may take that for what it's worth.

Heheh, Shaolin Soccer is pretty awesome but Kung Fu Hustle doesn't fall behind. I love the scene where they stomp a soccer ball and say "Enough soccer".

Any of you seen the Tony Jaa flicks? Ong Bak and such... Some are pretty cool.

I didn't like Kung Fu Hustle until after I saw Shaolin Soccer. I think Hustle may be funnier and better after all, but it's not as accessible, or at least somehow it just didn't click with me the first time. I also really liked CJ7, not really a martial arts flick, but from the same director, and has a lot of nods to his other movies.
