Re: Confirmed: XBL and PSN get Dreamcast games
I wish games companies would release more compilations. I just don't have the space to keep a bunch of old consoles and a small mountain of games around.
It's pretty crazy that Nintendo haven't put out a Mario compilation since Super Mario All-Stars.

Nintendo just resells games to make a higher profit. Just look what they did with NES games on GBA, or now on VC.

Well, Nintendo didn't straight-up port/emulate/whatever SMB 1-3. They enhanced them to showcase the new system's hardware (and ironically surpassed Mario World. 16-bit SMB2 is still eye-candy)
It'd take them considerably more effort to polish-up Mario 64 than all three NES games combined, no doubt.
Which kind of brings up the point that books and music are seldomly enhanced (books more than any other media), while games often are. I can only imagine being one of those guys that owned vanilla Link's Awakening when DX came out not five years later, complete with an extra dungeon. It's a bit aggravating if you let it get to you.

Actually, music sort of is, with albums getting re-released or "remastered", though you'd have a hard time seriously referring to it as "enhanced".Dr. BUGMAN wrote:Which kind of brings up the point that books and music are seldomly enhanced (books more than any other media), while games often are.

In particular check the image on the right.
This is a totally different thing, of course, but I felt the need to be absolutely correct here.

True enough; digital remastering -- and the more recent 3-d enhanced movies -- didn't occur to me till well after I posted that.
But paying 15 dollars to re-watch Peter Jackson's King Kong in 3D really isn't a big a sticking point for people as paying for an incrementally improved game that they already own.

This is why seeing " A Tim Schafer Game" on the front of Brutal Legend made me happy. Games need more names. I'm sure that if like, God Hand had "From Shinji Mikami, the director of Resident Evil 4" or something on the front more people would have at least checked it out. Or for a more accessible example, Pikmin had Miyamoto's name on it.G.Silver wrote:I think the reason for this is that gamers are constantly hungry for new material, and have a very dedicated "news" industry to keep them informed of exactly what everyone is doing. When you hear that Sega is re-releasing game X and that's all the news for that day, then it sounds like they're wasting their time when they could be making something new. You don't see this with movies, books, and albums, because the artists are, in the public eye, much further separated from the publisher. No one gets excited for publishing companies in those industries, it's always about the director, the actor, the author, or the musician, and in general the "news" covering those media doesn't focus on the publishers.Esrever wrote:I will never understand why some people get so ANGRY about ports and rereleases.
Movies and books and music albums are kept in circulation forever, but HEAVEN FORBID a game company actually try to keep selling a game that's more than five years old!

Well crap, then I guess it will just be Sega/Sonic team titles only in this case. *shrugs* At least Jet Set Radio is a definite given*.Segaholic2 wrote:I think it is overly optimistic to expect that any 3rd-party titles will be released as part of this initiative. Power Stone Collection on PSP makes no reference to Sega or Dreamcast anywhere that I've noticed.
That said, I've been wanting to replay SA1 for a while and I may as well wait until the PSN release happens. Unless they totally FUBAR the port.
*and maybe Shenmue, but that would really sound overly optimistic

I wonder if anyone remembers that Jet Set Radio is a laggy, awkward, unfun failure of a series with stupid characters and awful music.

It's probably just you, mate.
Cue someone else suddenly piping up that JSR "hasn't aged well", and/or "is overrated".

Apart from the weird cardboard horizon stuff in Shibuya-cho, or the easily-broken enemy AI, Jet Set is like, the perfect game.

I like these guys' take on it, though I feel bad for the cow, which was drowned after the ceremony.

A Balinese teenager caught in the act of intercourse with a cow passed out on Friday when he was forced to marry the animal in a ceremony witnessed by hundreds of curious onlookers...
...In his defence, Alit admitted to the act of bestiality but claimed the cow, which he believed was a young and beautiful woman, had wooed him with flattering compliments.

On a seemingly unrelated topic, I wonder if the Sega CD, 32X or Saturn will ever get officially sanctioned emulation/whatever. I mean, it's quite a leap to go from Mega Drive to Dreamcast.

Also I would be interested in this hearing how it's actually not a port of SADX if I couldn't just go to eBay and buy the original SA for DC. Which I really ought to do someday.
Besides, downloading this would mean that I would be missing out on that Chao Adventure for VMU. Intolerable.

If you miss out on Chao Adventure, you're not really missing out on much.
I've heard that 32X and Saturn would be harder to emulate than Mega Drive or DC. It doesn't help that their games aren't as popular either.Neo wrote: I wonder if the Sega CD, 32X or Saturn will ever get officially sanctioned emulation/whatever. Well in regard to the 32x, if you hire Steve Snake and don't give him any lip this time...

I'm pretty sure they emulated 32X on Gamefly. Knuckles Chaotix showed up on there. Like, right around the time Gems Collection came out. Frickin' A.

Anything emulated on PC by people with a hobby for programming or whatever is not hard to do.
