Re: GHZ Kickstarter Picks
Yooka-Laylee ended about $600,000 under Mighty #9, but with 6000 more donors. Much better than I expected. Given its amazing start, Shenmue might've topped that if we didn't just find out it's being funded by Sony. The Kickstarter is going to have to clarify what exactly we're paying for. The most f...

Re: Sonic Boom Fire & Ice
I'm guessing Sega must have signed Sanzaru on to two games (especially as the Rouge VA had "Sonic II" listed as a 2012 title). As such I'm not expecting it to be an improvement over the original, as it's quite likely that a large part of the design process was completed before the original shipped....

Banjo-Threeie will probably not beat Not-Megaman, but it's off to a good start.
Re: Run Away
Woooooow. I didn't think they'd come down on them that hard. It's like 1996 all over again. After several failed cartoons SoA invests 2-3 years into Sonic Xtreme, originally tying in with the cartoons but changing the plot several times before ending on something about Prof. Boobowski and the Rings...

Re: Sega Sonic Arcade sighting in Chicago
Guys, it's an arcade game. The reason you're always being chased is to force you to get to the finish quickly so the kids behind you can get a turn to spend their money. I think even Gauntlet threw something at you if you stood around too long.

Ok, I wasn't going to say anything the first time, but restating the same de facto opinion 3 times in one topic over the course of two days is spamming. Rob-Bert, please have the humility to acknowledge that we don't care that much about your feelings toward the franchise's story direction. We heard...

Ah, to be young and harrow at the blooms of debris spewing from a Sonic trainwreck again! Live these days to the fullest young ones, for someday the apathy shall come for thy soul too. Well, specifically it tells us that they don't think they'd see a return on continued work on it. They know people ...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.
I'm not a Pokemon fan; that was just a factoid I'd heard. And I don't know what I was thinking; the way Greninja's reveal trailer was trolling Mewtwo fans probably made me think the chances of him being added after that were low, and Greninja's moveset looking much more useful than Mewtwo's must've ...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.
I was pleasantly surprised. With Greninja around I thought Mewtwo would be seen as too redundant. It's good timing though - he's recently become a relevant Pokemon again. His two Mega forms have the highest attack base stat and special attack base stat in the game.

What's wrong with a serious situation in an absurd world? You're already suspending your disbelief to accept Roger Dean-esque talking animal land at all. Why can't its inhabitants be like us and have dark feelings and face grim conflict? It obviously turns you off, but I wouldn't dismiss a work of ...

I think it's supposed to be his arrogant smirk. You never see it in character art, but he does wear it occasionally. how are they are going to work in Metal Sonic & Shadow's back stories. Even if they are starting afresh, they'd still need to set something up, and it's going to be awful tough to re-...

Re: Interesting Sonic Team interviews
Now I'm curious how much influence Oshima had. SA1 had a lot more to do with the original story and stuck closer to that old Japanese Sonic vibe than any of the other games in that era. Was Maekawa transitioning into his new vision for Sonic gradually, or was it someone like Oshima keeping him in ch...

On a related note, was anyone aware of this? It's a Mexican-Argentine project and it looks surprisingly good and faithful to the source but it's still Top Cat.

Re: What are you playing today?
I don't know. I'm having flashbacks to Pokemon, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Gameboy Camera, the Gameboy LttP remake, and Mario Advance 4, all of which required a Gameboy, second game, game link cables, Gameboy printer, or E-Reader in order to 100%. Those are peripherals and not toys, but somehow I do...

Re: What are you playing today?
Models and voice work aside, how much more effort would go into a character made from whole cloth? I actually haven't played a Mario Kart since 64 but I'm guessing the hit boxes on the karts are minimally different. You end up having to balance the stats for baby characters too, so that's no work sa...

Re: What are you playing today?
Believe it or not, having to buy toys to scan things that do whatever is not my wish. It's Nintendo; you have to meet them halfway. What I meant is that the inclusion of so many alternate versions of existing characters (5 babies and 2 metals) in this edition is inexplicable. If they're going to go...

Re: coming to theaters near you
Sony's got a tough act to follow . I can't see SegaSammy having initiated this project. Someone at Sony must've seen this as another CG animal franchise they could couple to the nostalgia train and Sega was just happy to get some significant licensing fees. Unless it ties into the Sonic Boom marketi...

Incidentally, yesterday Nintendo announced on their E3 stream that Mario Kart 8 is already coded to make use of the NFC figurines they're releasing, so you may just get your wish. It could explain why the starting roster was so inexplicably poor this time.

I think they just wanted another girl character and specifically one well-differentiated from Amy. That was probably their primary motivation, but they had existing choices that already have at least some fan love. Cream, Rouge, Blaze - heck, it already looks like a Marine redesign. Maybe it starte...

Re: We few, we happy, we Smash Bros. in arms.
In retrospect, it's kind of surprising that Nintendo would choose to revive a franchise where mastering the game was rewarded by having Samus strip down to her underwear. Does she still do that on the Virtual Console ports?
