Re: Disney buys Marvel
That sounds like it'd be pretty sweet.
On a somewhat related note, I suppose it's not too late to nominate Dr. Octopus and Ursala as 2009's cutest couple?

Is it too early to start casting for "Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters Musical"?

4 billion?! That's... well. Holy shit. The Walt Disney Company has announced that it will be acquiring Marvel Entertainment for approximately $4 billion in a stock and cash transaction based on the closing share price of Disney stock on Friday.
I can't think of a good joke now.

So when can we expect Marvel vs. Capcom vs. Disney?

Re: Disney buys Marvel
Using my handy-dandy laptop calculator, I've found that Disney will need to release approximately 5.9 Spider-Mans (with revenues equaling that of the original film) to break even on their four-billion dollar investment. Conversely, they could also release 9.5 Iron Mans.
...I kinda think Disney got the raw end of the deal. I love Marvel proporties as much as the next guy, but I had a hell of a hard time believing the company was worth so much.

That's a stupid way to calculate anything. The real money is in merchandise.
Re: Disney buys Marvel
So how many action figures do they need to sell to break even?

Re: Disney buys Marvel
It's not really a raw deal when you consider that Disney has been trying(and mostly failing) to successfully capture the young male demographic for years like they did with the young female demographic with Disney Princesses, Hannah Montana, etc. This is a big coup for them to get young boys generally interested in at least one of their subsidaries. Their offshoot cable channel, Disney XD is already dominated by Marvel cartoons so this is the next big step.Wombatwarlord777 wrote:...I kinda think Disney got the raw end of the deal. Re: Disney buys Marvel
I can picture Iron Duck, The Incredible Goof and Spider-Sora in a Marvel/Incredibles-styled level. Square needs to get going with KH3.
I wonder what will happen with The Punisher? Will all the characters bleed rainbows from now on?

Disney owns Miramax, which has released such family-friendly movies such as Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill vol. 1&2. So most definitely.

The wierd thing is, this is almost an exact mirror of the fact that Time Warner (a.k.a. Warner Bros., one of Disney's big cartoon rivals in the days of Termite Terrace) owns DC Comics.
Re: Disney buys Marvel
I thought the same.
I'd love to see Super Goof making a comeback though.
Ans what ever happened to Howard the Duck?

Darkwing Duck. That's all I want, personally.

Re: Disney buys Marvel
If nothing else, this is a fairly good sign for Spectacular Spider-Man.
With Sony out of the picture, Disney XD certainly has a lot more incentive to renew the series, since their parent company has complete control over it. With an established fanbase and existing merchandise, taking over production of SSM would be the fastest way for Marvel and Disney to ensure that they have a flagship series going on the network.Weisman explained, "Sony is NO LONGER involved with The Spectacular Spider-Man. I'm informed that Marvel can now produce the series, but of course, they don't have to." Weisman noted he had "no clue" as to what Sony gained regarding Spider-Man's film rights that they didn't already have that led them to give up the TV rights to the character.
Re: Disney buys Marvel
Actually, Universal Studios has in perpetuity, the rights to build and maintain themepark attractions based on the Marvel universe for eternity as long as they keep it on the East Coast of the US. So Marvel Island won't be going anywhere, and Universal could even expand it with new rides if they wished.Senbei wrote:Come to think of it, I wonder what will happen to that, ahem, amazing Spider-Man ride at Universal.Wombatwarlord777 wrote:I call first dibs on the inevitable Spider-Man themed thrill ride at Disney World.
However, this doesn't stop Disney from adding a "Superheroland" to Disney LAND.
