Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Oh I remember, one of the producers mentioned the other Sega teams contributed character models. Extra shameful.
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
It doesn't make it any less awful looking though.
I'm really holding out for Temjin or Nei. That would make my year.

No one posted a video of the game in action yet?

As you can see, Big the Cat is playable also.

So honestly, I'm cool with Sonic driving a car, especially when, as Esrever said, he is participating in a car race. But his special, apparently, is to jump out of the car, turn into Super Sonic, and blast ahead of everyone like Mario Kart's Bullet Bill power up. I'm afraid that just ruins it for me.

So, SOL says we will be happier than with SST, and I believe him, he has posted in some forums from some years, not only neogaf as lots of insiders do, and he has always told the truth.Usual cheerful Neogaf bunch
Yes we've listened to the SST feedback - and I'm sure you'll be a lot happier with the character roster. Once we can talk about it that is. Providing the office doesn't burn down, it should make a showing on the E3 floor.
Yes, it's us Sumo doing it BTW :P

Sonic's car would bother me a lot less if it didn't resemble his face. That kind of stuff always weirds me out. Same thing with Tails' house in Sonic Battle.
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
I hope he isn't jumping around in his car in the final version of the game. I find it kind of annoying.
But there aren't any good kart racers on PS3/360 are there? There's this Free Realms Kart Racer and Kart Attack. So... I think this game might actually have a place.

Yeah, but if people think SONIC driving a car is "strange", what would they think about a supercharged glowing being with the ability to defeat/destroy lesser gods and Eldritch Abominations...driving a car?G.Silver wrote:So honestly, I'm cool with Sonic driving a car, especially when, as Esrever said, he is participating in a car race. I'm still in the camp that wonders why they can't just make a Sonic R2...or at least have the characters that are naturally fast (i.e. SONIC) run alongside those who have to use cars or airplanes to keep up. It just seems more "natural" to me that way.
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Then it becomes a clusterfuck to design and program (remember what the on-foot characters controlled like in R), so no, it's better off one or the other.Yami CJMErl wrote:I'm still in the camp that wonders why they can't just make a Sonic R2...or at least have the characters that are naturally fast (i.e. SONIC) run alongside those who have to use cars or airplanes to keep up. And in a way that makes your hope for Sonic R2 rather ironic :p

Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Yeah, but I'll always have the dream.
This almost got me thinking of what a Super Smash Bros. kart-racing game would be like. Would Mario ride Yoshi or one of his usual Mario Kart vehicles? Would Samus fly around in a chibified version of her gunship, a la Star Wars Bombad Racing? What kind of vehicle would LINK ride that wouldn't have the Epona fans wailing and gnashing their teeth?

Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
An SSB kart racer would be Kirby Air Ride with tooned-up Nintendo characters. At least that's how I picture it.
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
This game would've been kinda entertaining if everyone turns super like Super Sonic and fly outta their cars, but that wont happen, except for maybe Shadow, Silver and Blaze if they're in this game.
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
You're thinking too small; each character could have an array of vehicles, including airborne and grounded, mechanical and natural, to choose from. After a certain point, characters could start to use each other's vehicles. So, each of the possibilities you mentioned would be permitted, and more, including the on-foot option for fleet-footed characters.Yami CJMErl wrote:This almost got me thinking of what a Super Smash Bros. kart-racing game would be like. Also, if we're even going to consider a game based off of Kirby Air Ride's engine, we have to make it not as simplistic (mapping the A button to everything? Too context-sensitive, causes problems), faster, and with more alternate routes. That's me speaking from not played it for about half a year (though I did buy Diddy Kong Racing DS today, and it's turning out OK).

Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Assuming programing restraints weren't an issue, the option to have Sonic on foot or driving a car would be a breakthrough in the racing genre. Each style could have it's own unique mechanics (Perhaps on foot, racers would have additional manueverability and access to rails, at the expense of speed, for instance). If the developers managed to successfully implement that, I'd at least give them credit for not coping out with yet another mundane Mario Kart clone, which the game so far is largely turning out to be.

Note the lack of Mario.
It is a common misconception that Nintendo actually invented everything.

Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Inventing kart racing and popularizing video games centering around kart racing that star familiar characters are two different things.

I did. What's your point?
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Ah karts, I rode them on various occasions as a kid, those things are scary cuz its just like a car.

do you actually think this worked well in riders?Wombatwarlord777 wrote:(Perhaps on foot, racers would have additional manueverability and access to rails, at the expense of speed, for instance).

Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
Crash Team Racing is pretty okay.
Re: Sega announces Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing
It's actually my favorite mascot racer next to Diddy Kong Racing, which was awesome by virtue of multiple vehicle types.
I would KILL for a game that somehow combines Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Team Racing, Crash Tag Team Racing, and Excitebots into one massive clusterfuck of an awesome mascot racer.
Yes. I believe it can be done. Persecute me.
